I teamed up with Joe from Orinda Auto Detail to help him with a new client of his who wanted new Tesla Model S P85 corrected and coated with Opti-Coat Pro. Normally a job like this would be dropped off, but it was just beyond the range of the Tesla's battery. We decided a road trip was in order as no one was able to help this guy, so we stepped up!

We got on the road for the 5hr trip the night before and arrived at about 3am at the client's home. After 5hrs sleep we got right to work. 15hrs later (30man hours) we were done correcting and coating the paint and drove home that same night....getting back home at 4am. It really was a marathon trip as when we got back we both had to work later that morning. But at the end of the day, the client was happy and that's what matters!

I did the wheels while Joe polished the glass, getting it ready for Optimum Opti-Glass

I started taking measurements on the paint to check the thickness and Joe began taping off the trim. Thin readings at the bottom of the car, as expected.

This car being new did NOT mean it was defect free by any means

EurekaP8537.jpg

Now that's better

Here I am working the driver's fender

Here's Joe working the front end. It had....issues. I compounded all the doors and the back end while he did the front, that's how bad the hood and bumper were.

EurekaP8549.jpg

More progress on the doors, now swirl and scratch free

The driver's rear quarter had some nasty deep scratches.....

Much better!

Joe was busy lying down on the job......and getting it done!

These nasty scratches were courtesy of the owner's dog

50/50 shot after compounding. More gloss and clarity would be restored with the next polishing step

There were some really deep scratches on the bumper and it took quite a bit of effort to remove them.

Much better

EurekaP8581.jpg

These were particularly deep and took some delicate compounding to safely remove.

At this point the majority of the compounding was done but we were losing daylight so we brought it outside to verify the correction we were seeing under the lights. Looked good, so we continued.

Didn't have time to photo-document the final polishing process, but here are the results. This one Joe took with his phone, and the gloss is incredible.

Now I'm lying down on the job and laying down some serious Opti-Coat Pro!

Thanks for looking!

Some quality work ethic here guys :)

I have many years of new car detailing experience under my belt & can sympathise with the poor quality that some new cars roll out of the showroom with. The stories I could tell lol ...

Fabulous result for you guys, I love the deep, crisp reflections you have left this client with

Well done.

Wow that turned out nice. What compounds and polishes did you use?
I bet you two were freaking out when you pulled it outside and those little kids were riding their bikes next to it lol

Beautiful work gentlemen. Looks incredible now.

That dog had his way with the paint and you guys took care of the scratches. Nice.

Great job guys!! That's a gorgeous colour too.

Great job guys. I see the owner was making sure the scratches were gone. The paint was in terrible shape.

HD Cut for compounding and HD Polish for well, polishing. Did step into a few of Meguiar's offerings and Menzerna as well, for troubled areas, but the majority was HD Cut/Polish.

Thankfully their father was out keeping a close eye on them, as were Joe and I!

Thanks everyone! Yeah it was much worse than we had expected. Further proof that because a car is new doesn't mean its defect free at all.

Great work.

Those Teslas have super soft paint so it's no surprise they come like that from the factory. A few we've done looked even worse also brand new.

I just love when you guys give us good write-ups
You both did one hell of a job on this one.
Just wish I could have been there with the two of you:(

This is the type of jobs I love doing
