I'm using D300 with a DA buffer to correct for all these small etched spots that look like remnants of old water spots in my 2006 bmw m3 jet black (soft). I've gone through several rounds of with the D300 correction compound, but don't seem to be making much progress to the point where I'm getting scared I might be burning through my clearcoat.

Here are pictures of the spots I'm talking about (the spot is just to the right of the light): Paint Correction - Album on Imgur

Is there any hope for me? What might I be doing wrong?

Thanks in advance,
Michael

Depending on the waterspot you may need to wetsand these spots to get them out. Two hard to tell based on photos.

Here is what I would try.

1) try using a liquid water spot remover, like the product maid by Geyon.
2) try a more aggressive compound like d100 BMW paint is usually hard so you may need a more aggressive compound compared to D300
3) try to wetsand the water spot first with 3000 grit then compound with d300 or D100 then polish with 205

Regarding amount of paint left. Without measuring the paint thickness you will be guessing.

Questions:
Which DA are you using!
What speed are you running the machine at?
I assume you are using slow arm speed about 1" per second.
How many passes over the area?
