Well there it is, my first Jet Black correction detail on a V10 M6 convertible. The car is hand washed by the owner, so heavy swirls aren't expected, however i did see some holograms from when the previous owner had it.

What does the forum suggest? I typically use Pinnacle Advanced Swirl remover and Advanced Finishing Polish but i heard many things on the Jet Black so i was debating to get M105, M205, followed by CG Blacklight.

I am curious on what members had luck with when dealing with Jet Black paint.

Thanks!

test spot would deicide what formula you should go with

down pressure+work time+temperature+time+desired result= different ways to go about

Thats combo with MF pads for a pain free correction and finishing. I wish I had my MF pads today would have made my day way easier.

Thanks Evan, i typically use Lake Country foam pads for all correction details, always had good results. :props:

IMO you need something like SF4500 to really finish off Jet Black perfectly. I have had great luck with FG400 followed by SF4500 (or sonax perfect finish if you find your compound is leaving behind quite a bit of marring).

Here is a jet black toyota (also very soft paint) that I just did this weekend with the exact combo mentioned above.

Since you aren't expecting severe defects like the photo above, you may want to consider a 1 step with a product like Sonax Perfect Finish that has adequate cutting, but still finishes down like an ultra fine polish.

As already mentioned - Perform your appropriate test spots to see what works best in your particular situation.

^^ Thanks for the example! Great transformation, wow!

I will look into these products :)

Just placed an order for Sonax Perfect Finish..expensive!!! But if that's what it takes then i'm all up for it.

If Pinnacle doesn't work, i can always try m105, 205 and the Sonax.

Thanks for all the help!

Sonax Perfect Finish will have more cutting ability than M205 (sonax rates it as a level 4 cutting power on a scale from 1-6), but finishes down much better on softer paint... alter your pad choice to alter the cutting/finishing abilities slightly.

Thanks Zach. I have a bunch of orange pads but also ordered some Cyan for a stronger cut. I also have blue, gold, black, red and white in stock.

I used my PC7424xp with a 5.5" Megs MF cutting pad with Menzerna FG400 followed by a Lake country 5.5" Orange Flat pad with Sonax 3/6 Nano Polish. I tried a white pad with the sonax the first time after the fg400 and it just wasn't finishing down perfectly but the orange pad using firm pressure for 2 passes at speed 6, followed by 2 light pressure passes on 5.5, followed up by 2 passes on speed 5 with just the weight of the machine finished down the jet black on my dads 2003 M5 perfectly.

The Perfect Finish you might be able to use a white pad with no problem as it has slightly more cutting power than the nano polish.

I did a test spot on the trunk yesterday with Sonax perfect finish on an orange pad, then the other side i tested the Pinnacle Advanced Swirl Remover on an orange pad. The Sonax did the most good, however the improvement was only about 40-50%.

I think I will try the advanced swirl remover on the orange pad, followed by the Sonax perfect finish on a white polishing pad, and go from there.
