"Jeweling paint" 3 step polish?

I've read about "jeweling" with a rotary. Can this be done with a PC DA? If so, how, what pad, speed, polish, etc?

Thanks!

Use a blue pad with 85RD or 87MC on speed 6. Iv'e been using a 4" pad.

I've read elsewhere that a slower speed is used during jeweling, at least on a rotary and I think some have said the same for jeweling with a DA?

I don't think I have any small blue pads, though. Would white or black work?

I do have a 9" blue pad for my rotary that's torn on the edges that I could cut down to 5" or so for my PC.

with a PC its always pretty much full tilt, unless removing wax.

Thanks.

As Killr said, full tilt on a DA. The black should work as it is also a finishing pad. Don't know if you can cut the 9" pad perfectly round, give it a try.:buffing:

So can this be my process:
85RD w/ white pad followed by
XMT #1 w/ blue? or 85rd with blue? I have both of these products, should i stay with 85rd or switch to XMT for "jeweling" ?

Use the 85rd to jewel.

I cut an extra 7" backing plate down to 5" and it turned out good for smaller pads on my Makita rotary. Just have to cut carefully so it's balanced.

I'm excited to try jeweling with the PC and the Makita. Never done it before. I don't have any Menzerna products. I have Optimum Polish, Optimum Black Magic, AutoGlym Radiant Wax and Polish, Zaino Z5 and just got some Meguiar's #7 today. Any of them work for jeweling with a blue foam pad? I've been looking at getting some M105 and M205 as well.

I just completed the jeweling effect....with the PC on my black Boxster S.

Step 1 WG Clay
Step 2 wash with WG
Step 3 Orange TSR
Step 4 White TSR
Step 5 Gray WG Glaze... at 6...came out awesome...:righton:....! Used my new Fenix tk11...looked good!
Step 6 Red WG Seal

Step 7 Fuzion tomorrow...stay tuned!

Was planning to use blue (per posts here) but Loudog suggested Gray due to some minor swirls left behind. I will post some pics tomorrow after Fuzion application.

What is TSR and WG? I have Meguiar's #7 Glaze. Is that good for jeweling with gray pad on a Porter Cable?

WG = Wolfgang
TSR = total swirl remover by Wolfgang

My understanding is the blue pad at level 6 with the PC is the proper approach for "amping" or "jeweling". Gotta love level 6 and I had the 6 counter weight with 6.5 pads. I highly suggest spending $4 for the counter weight to ease the vibrations.

#7 is a glaze, not made to jewel the paint, you want to use a true finishing polish for this step.

So Wolfgang Glaze actually polishes? That's not confusing at all.

Ok, I'm learning! I guess my Optimum Black Magic polish for dark cars or Optimum Polish would be suitable for jeweling? Or Maybe AutoGlym Radiant Polish and Wax. It's pretty thin and seems finer than Optimum Polish.

I wonder if there's an article or post somewhere comparing the different brands and how they correspond to each other as far as abrasiveness and effectiveness?

You want a true polish, nothing with wax or any or type of additives. You want something like Menzerna 85rd, Meguiars M205, or 3M Ultrafina.

Thanks. That makes sense. I've been looking for a deal on M105 and M205. I've read a lot about them being very good products.

Can't wait to see some photos. Is Fuzion ($175) really that much better than something over-the-counter like Meguiar's Gold or NXT? Don't all waxes wash off pretty quickly?

I did not pay $175....got the 2-1 $100 deal. But, I have yet to try it and hope the product is as great as everyone says. Before 12pm tomorrow, I will know the answer. The WG Seal was awesome...went on easy and car off with very little effort. The car looks great already but I expect some POP tomorrow.

Wolfgang's glaze is more like a nano polish, not a true glaze.

DiPaoro I'm glad your car came out good. If you had any of those finishing polishes ASPHALT mentioned, I would've talked to you about jeweling. Next time, when the swirls aren't so bad. Did the rest of the minor swirls come out with the WG glaze and the gray pad?
