Had to leave, they have a contract with a company for exclusive product use. So if they don't have it, you can't use it, not even your own stuff. Then the service manager is under the impression they are the best products ever.

Sometimes you have to walk away and shake your head at the stupidity of people.

That sux mate , He thinks he knows everything while in fact he knows #### .

Sorry you had to leave. Don't worry bigger and better things are waiting for you just around the corner. The only reason the service manager thinks it's so great is likely because it's cheaper. Do you know the name of the product?

No chance of doing a side by side comparison on a vehicle?

Cooks Automotive, some local company that makes its own stuff.

Very familiar with that company and product. Its definitely a price thing.

So youre saying that you chose to leave the job that you had because you did not like the product that they are using??

Amazing!! in this economy that we are in someone can still do such thing..

On my side , it seems more than that . The op wasn t in good terms with the mgr & he s true to himself .

It does seem more than the product useage and if not, that's pretty hardcore! I'm not sure its something I could do but since the OP did it, tip of the cap and good luck with your next job for sure.

It's amazing you can be so judgmental without full knowledge of the situation. How do you know he's not retired and doing it for a bit of fun on the side? It was a choice the OP obviously felt he had to make and I'm betting he didn't walk in to work one day and just decide to walk out of the door just because they had turtle wax sitting on the shelf. Sorry but I find your post uncalled for.

OP, I'm sure in the long run you'll save yourself a bit of stress being able to do things the way you would like. Hopefully that time comes quick for you.

Keep your head up OP!!

Sometimes things just don't work out.
Sometimes things work out for the better.

I'm not giving away my knowledge.
My goal is to make cars look their best
Not going to hide anything, just going to do it the right way.
Doesn't seem like anyone there knows what it takes. Just have to show them by the result.
Not sure, they have a contract with a company that makes its own stuff, kinda of like what Chemical Guys does.
First day went ok. To show how much they use buffers before I started..no one knew if the one that had worked.

They need a lot of help, only that don't know that yet :)
Going to make them get me a DA polisher!

Surely...You must also be/feel frustrated...

If a product is not effective and they won't even let you use stuff you buy yourself with your own money then yes I will leave. $9hr isn't enough to put up with people that have zero understanding of detailing. Going back to my own business that I've run for more than 7 years and use outstanding products.

Yup. Cheap crap bought by people who pay more attention to the price that the quality, because they don't have to actually use the stuff.

Been there done that bro I know how you feel.

As the Gambler said, you got to know when to hold 'em and know when to fold 'em... Know when to walk away and when to run. his sounds like a definite run. Sorry it worked out that way for you.

Oh it's about more than just the cost of the product. Chances are the service manager is getting a kickback. Been there, done that! I did towing for dealerships from 85 till 2003 and there has NEVER been one that isn't getting something, from someone, somewhere, either under the table, over the table, or in the form of discounts and/or bonuses that show up in either one or more individuals pockets.

Some companies pay per case, some per container (bulk), some per car (towing companies). I've had dealerships that were mine and a new service writer would come in from another shop and bring his own "tow guy" and the management wouldn't to crap about it.

The way to get it stopped is complaints. The customers complain and the dealership listens. (The parts guy may not, the service manager may not, but if the OWNER gets calls he'll look into it.) Take a car and do a side by side and that'll tell all. Who knows... it may just work! :dunno: (Or at least work as well as they care for it to.) ;)

I agree with Cardaddy. It is amazing the type of corruption and stupidity you can find in a car dealership. It sometimes rivals what I have seen at Fortune 500 companies.
