Hi all,

Wanted to start a thread for my engine bay. I've always been afraid to just attack the bay without some guidance. To this point I have limited my detailing attempts to a Quick Detailer and a MF. I have ok results - see posted. But I'd really like some product suggestions and even some methods for having the biggest visual impact. Spray and rinse type products?

Comment away...

The manifold and cold side piping are ceramic coated. The brace and the harness cover are both powdercoated.

Don't think it's a Subaru unless its the boxer 6 but the intake manifold is different.

Could it be a Mazda?

pretty sure that's an infiniti. and you did NOT mess around with your intercooler piping. vband clamps? suckers aint cheap. I've only ever seen them on exhausts and for the wastegate. I'm still rockin silicone couplers! You gonna polish the piping?

2004 Infiniti FX35 (vq35de) RWD

Gt35r at 16psi, 450 WHP, (DD @ 12 psi)

Fully built motor and 5at

13.6 @ 111mph, quarter mile

All pipes are ceramic coated so I was not planning on polishing them.

G35 for sure! now someone help this guy answer his questions! =)

^-----Darn i was wrong! looked like a G35 at a glance.

just cover all the electronics up with a plastic bag and electrical tape spray your degreaser and scrub as much as you can with a brush then rinse off with a light spray of water. clean an engine when its warm not operating temp warm but about 120f is fine and then dry off as much water with a towel and then start engine and let it get to operating temp.....just try not to spray near the electronics....a air compressor helps to blow the water out of harder spots, i dont like to use water when cleaning an engine, however some need it and if the proper precautions are taken its ok to do....but i only clean it with water once after that you should not need water to clean it again just spray and wipe....

Thanks - both these posts really helped! I'm going to give it a shot. I've never even considered waxing the paint in the engine bay... till I joined this forum.

Now it seems silly I've never done it.

NICE! i like! im partial to red too =)

lol, I can see that! Laser Red FXs are rare - only produced in 2003 and 2004. I was told by the dealer there were less than 50 in the country. Not sure if I believe it - I've seen three or four other ones here in Houston and a half dozen in other cities but never found a way to find out production statistics. Anyway... appreciate your link to the how-to. Should have known it was already covered.

no prob on the link. the search feature is a PITA to use if u dont know EXACTLY what u are looking for. this gentleman just recently posted that thread so i knew what i was looking for.
i dont believe the only 50 in the country either, but your's is one-of-a-kind with the engine upgrades. quite the sleeper u have there.:props:

nice fx the fx is one of the 2 suv type vehicles i actually like, they are just a nice stylish, fairly powerful vehicle. ive detailed one before and liked how they looked..the 2nd suv vehicle i like would be the gmc typhoon.....question about the FX is yours lowered? looks like it is if it isnt lower it and make it lower would look sick closer to the ground with some nice staggered wheels.would look awesome with a small front/rear lip nothing extreme but something that makes the front end even more agressive and stylish

Wow, talk about a sleeper, that is awesome! Just some questions unrelated to detailing. What kind of tires are you running, those are 12 second trap speeds for sure. Also, i know a lot of BMW guys are pushing their GT35r's above 20 psi on built 3.2L straight sixes, so why are you at 12, is your auto trans holding you back from turning up the boost? Just curious, as it would be crazy to see a stock looking SUV touch 11s.
