~*Just bought Flex!!*~ some Help from experts plz( PADS...etc)

I know I learn something new everyday reading posts on here.

You will love the Flex. My Flex is 6-7years old and still runs like a champ, the only thing I had to replace was the backing plate as it eventually wore out. Take care of the foam pads and they will also last you a while. I mark & number my pads for certain compounds/polishes. This helps me track their usage and better gauge when they are going to need replacement.

That is a great idea for the numbering of the pads to the polishes compounds. Like you literally just said "you learn something new everyday reading posts". Thanks for that.

I prefer the Lake Country Hybrid pads on the 3401 bar none. These were designed for the characteristics of the 3401.

You don't necessarily have to perform a 3 step. Often times a 2 step is all that is needed. Unless you are after the utmost gloss, depth, and reflection.

I would have 6 pads of each feature on hand. 6 Cutting, 6 polishing, 6 finishing just to be safe.

Yes a pad brush is recommended to remove built up product from the face of the pad between sections. With the 3401, I brush my pads off while the machine is off.

The 4" plate for the 3401 is what I use along with the 5" Hybrid pads.

:iagree:

Great thanks! I've only been able to find one 4" backing FLEX XC3401 Changeable Backing Plate System. Is this the one you use or would recommend. I've read that the 4 3/8 backing plate is made for european pads and doesn't align with 5" LC pads velcro very well, have you all experienced this? Some one recommend to pick up the LC 4" backing plate However I've been unable to locate it the store, Only one i see is the flexible 4 3/4 plate. Could someone post a link?

The backing plate you linked is made by LC.

Euro,

The 4" plate is the one that is designed specifically for the 5" Hybrids pads. This is the plate you want to use with them. Look on the bottom right corner of the website. The 5" pads are what goes with that plate.

The 4 3/8" plate is for use with the 5.5" pads such as the flats, etc.

Welcome to AutoGeekOnline.

Thanks brother, appreciate the welcome. I'm actually a long time lurker, just decided recently to make an account. I'm also a proud owner of a flex 3401 and the backing plate Euro linked is good to go. It's what I use with my 5in hybrid pads. :xyxthumbs:

First impressions. with auto geek customer service... I was told the 4 3/8 " was the correct one to purchase for the LC hybrid pads 5" and not the 4" . Granted there are LOT of products however it wasn't like I was told he didn't know or was unsure.
Not a huge deal, just frustrated , have some one thats changed there schedule around too help me, and another person that made arrangements to leave their car here. Simply wasted time, money , & having to return replace this trying to have them honor the same discount from package deal could be a headache.

Anyway ...The reviews on the store for the 4" make it sound really cheap. Any other manufactures of a better quality 4" plate for flex?

Without stepping on anyones toes, yes the 4 3/8" plate can be used with the 5" Hybrid pads. However the Velcro backing material on the pad is 4" while the plate is 4 3/8". This will leave you with 3/8" overhang of the plate on the pad. This extra bit of Velcro can potentially dig into the foam pad when downward pressure is applied.

The correct pad and plate combination is indeed the 5" Hybrid pads with the 4" plate. This system was designed to be used together.

There are only 4 plate size options and two plate manufactures. Flex and Lake Country.

Is there a difference between the $389 version of the flex vs the $349 pink flex? Looks like by its description it is the same other than color.

its staid that it attracts women like a pheromone infused axe body spray
and to be made with a pink unicorns horn , that make any projects use completed with ease and beauty.
thats just what i've heard though ;)

I believe the pink flex units were a run of polishers made with proceeds to support cancer research? Am I remembering that correctly?
