Just read all 17 pages and the Meguiars NXT line came up alot or seemed to. I was going to start my 1st detail. Now i'm rethinking my products. Meguiars Ultimate Compond,Ult Polish,NXT Gen Tech wax 2.0 bottle and Ult Quik Detailer. Should i use some of these/none. The only one that is the NXT brand or line is the wax. All products have been bought within the last couple of weeks if that makes a differance on new formulas or ingredients. What do you guys think ?

if you can return it, and it will ease your mind, then do so

it's mainly durability that people complained about. See if you can find some collinite 845 OTC. I don't think you'll find any complaints about that as an lsp...

Good Morning!

Are you using only over the counter products purchased locally?
Will you be using a dual action or rotary polisher?

Basic steps in order are:

  • Wash
  • Clay
  • Paint Correction & Polish
  • Seal
  • Wax
I've never been a fan of the NXT line period, but that's just me.

Paint Correction and Polish

Meguiar's Ultimate Compound and Meguiar's Swirls-X are two great over the counter products.

Here's some great information that will help you if you need it.

I prefer to put my own package together.

Sealants

Wax

One of my favorites

There's no prob with the line you got ... Have used them all with great success
Most of the bozos on here don't use the product correctly, don't detail in the ideal climates, Don't use the correct techniques and have a bad experience or so
Me personally one PITA Megs product is UltWax ... The 3 times I tried it I just couldn't find the right working time and it always came off streaky - did 15-30-45 removals and nothing
Does this mean it sucks? No! It probably would have come off perfect at an hour and a half but that's more time than I want to give waiting ... I'd rather use Souveran hit a panel or two and then come back and wipe - my two cents

I have never had a problem using the Megs NXT Tech Wax. Like others have said, find something that you like using.

Keep in mind some people only get that warm and fuzzy detailing high if their products are scrapped off near extinct palm trees by exiled Buddhist monks living in caves deep in the Amazon. If it's available at retail chains a lot of people turn their back to it.

:)

I've always liked the looks and ease of use of NXT and NXT 2 liquid wax. Very short durability though.

Yes i have just bought a PC7424 and am pretty good at keeping a car/truck in good shape have had 4 black ones just never a full detail just clean /clay /wax. just would like to take it 1 step further on a newly purchased 98 black Camaro. No problem buying from Auto Geek site purchased pads last week. Did'nt buy products because i had above mentioned items already. Thanks for info guys. Keep them coming if you have ideas.

wow, seriously? we dont not how to use products correctly on AG, if you dont like it here go to another forum man, we are mainly hobbiest/high end detailers here not production. if you like production work as you do(judged from your posts) then fine but most here want good products that last, imo nxt 2.0 is not a good product in terms of durability. in terms of look and ease of use its great but longevity sucks. if i used something OTC id just go to carquest/auto parts store and get some meguiars #26.but alas, i just use 845 as it looks great, works great, lasts a while. if theres a west marine around you they sell collinite products, there is 1 wax thats 845 in a different bottle i just cannot remember for the life of me the name of that product. i think it might be the fiberglass boat wax. id rather 845 over nxt anyways because most of the time the 845 is 5$ cheaper!

The NXT spray wax and QD are horrible but the liquid and paste wax versions in the NXT line are very nice.If you're going with the ultimate Compound and polish think about finishing off with the Ult paste.

Meguiar's u-c u-p have used both of them, both work very nice. Meguiar's q-d is a very nice product also, never used nxt but have heard mixed results about it, if you want to try it you might like it. As for me I use the ultimate wax.

Wow! Somebody woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning. After a while of being on the forums you'll realize what Fred said is true. While its true that some people here are hobbiest/professionals the majority of people who come in here are completely new to detailing with no knowledge of proper techniques/methods..etc. Thats the reason they join the forums and the majority of the people who you see post frequently are the knowledgeable ones. Reality is probably 90% of the members(new and old) are still learning proper techniques.

Its all in the prep work. I easily get 2 months of durability out of nxt 2.0 which imo is pretty average for an lsp. If you want to talk about crappy durability then nattys waxes and souveran takes the cake. 3 weeks durabilty, maybe 4 tops while looks are gone during the second week.

In addition, I would also like to add I've been detailing for 7 years now and I am still learning about new products and how to use them. Not all products work the same way and all require different techniques. An example is when SMAT abrasives first came out and there was no longer a need to break down a polish and working times became much shorter.

_______

To the OP, I think thats a solid line up to start off with. Sticking to basics is always good and you'll find UC and UP to be able to handle the majority of what you throw at it and nxt 2.0 is a pretty decent wax to start that has some filling capabilities to help mask what you couldnt completely remove.

Just remember when you first start polishing dont go chasing down every single swirl. Reality is on a daily driver it will never stay in perfect condition and you will just have to learn to compromise.

The worse products are the unnecessary ones you blow your money on that you never use because you were convinced you had to have it. The best products are the ones you use over and over with same excellent results.

Sage advice here.
Experience and guidance for free!

Nxt tire shine is actually one of my favorites. Love the stuff.

I've gotten great results and durability with NXT 2.0 paste. I guess it really depends on how well/often you wash your car! Before i really got into serious(er) detailing, I usually wash mine once a week, used eagle one nano wax or wax as you dry, and garaged most of the time its not driven. Could just be the spray wax, but the shine and beading lasts for easily over 3 months (1 layer of NXT 2.0). I usually tend to put on a new layer every 3 or 4 months by hand.

I've switched over to black light and will continue using NXT 2.0 on my brothers car. All cars will continue to get weekly washes and spray waxes, or wax as you dry. I would say for an OTC product, it is pretty awesome.

NXT 2.0 was my gateway drug into the world of sealants. If you already own it go ahead and use it. I've spent a lot of money on products over the years.

It is about the prep. Claying is one of the most important steps. The LSP will sit nicely on top of a freshly clayed and polished car.

Whatever you do, remember to enjoy it. Try products that are recommended. See what you think of them.

That's why I'm here.
