Just removed my wisdom teeth

I had 3 removed at once about 12 years ago. One is still there and it was recommended that it stays, unless it starts causing some pain (due to how it grew - sideways and close to a major nerve). 2 came right out, the 3rd had to be broken in quarters to be removed. They gave me pain killers, but I never took them. I took a couple of advils and never really had much pain.
I had all 4 of mine pulled at the same time. I was sore for a little bit, and then some pressure, but the oxycodine fixed that 
just be careful with food getting in the holes for the next few weeks, and have fun getting the food out of them for the next few months, those holes heal, but they are still holes for a few months, just not open wounds.

Yep, 28 years ago I had one pulled, I think the horse doctor dentist used a Channel Locks to get that one out.
Then a few years later, the next three came out all at one time, two were impacted, and were coming in sideways. That one was Oral Surgery, they knocked me out, felt like 5 minutes passed, when 2-1/2 hours passed.
Didn't feel a thing, until many hours later, then the fun began.
Well, the 3 day prescription of "codeine laced good drugs" he gave me had me feeling like a Junkie, trying to read, and going into nods. After the three days, I was in very bad pain, the right side of my face was totally black and blue, from my temple to my neck.
Went in to see the dentist, so he could have a look, said everything was "normal", yeah right. I begged him for more good stuff, as the 800mg Tylenols were like taking Pez Candy.
He said no way, that I might get "addicted". Yeah, like I had a Pharmacy in my back pocket. I weathered through taking Aspirin, and I don't think I got an hour's sleep in an entire week. Lots of moaning, sobbing, I felt like Curly with the sore tooth.

It's been a few years since I had all 4 of mine pulled... However I remember there being minimal pain. More of a miserable feeling than pain.

But you'll know when the anesthesia has begun to wane:
That all surgical-numbness will no longer be in effect.
Then, hopefully, the 'script of Darvocet eases the pain!!
Revisit any paperwork, with "instructions", they sent home with you.

I got mine pulled last spring. All 4. Honestly, where my teeth were didn't hurt very bad unless a piece of food hit there for a week afterwards. But what really hurt me was my jaw dislocates when I have to open it all the way, and after having it open for the entire procedure they couldn't even get it shut afterwards. They had to shake/wait/speed up me waking up so I could shut it. For the next few days (like 4 days or so) I could barely even open my jaw to fit in a spoon of pudding or jello lol. Talking was so hard haha.
And since I got them removed my teeth have shifted pretty significantly so now I need some type of orthodontics. Elected to get Invisalign since braces on a 21 yr old getting ready to graduate college and try to enter the work force is not a good look lol :laughing:

My two worst days were day two and the last day (day seven for me).
Day two is when the good narcos the Doc gives you wears off and the swelling from the vise grips and the place where he planted his foot on your face while extracting starts to throb.
The last day is the day the scabs come off the holes where your teeth used to be. This usually happens while eating. You won't eat much after that on that particular day.
The last day was the most painful. I never experienced the "dry sockets" phenomenon so I can't comment as to how that feels, but I remember hearing that it hurt like all get out.
I also recall getting very creative with favoring instant mashed potatoes during that week, and cool chocolate pudding was my very best friend.

Your going to hate your face for the next 3 days. Got all four of mine out a few years back and that was worst vegas trip I've had.

From the wording of the title and the first post, it sounded like he did it himself. I know we are geared towards do it yourself on this forum, but wow. lol, I was joking.
Fortunately I haven't had to get mine removed. My jaw grew big enough for that to never be needed.
One thing you never seem to hear from the dentist growing up is that if you eat refined grains and sugar and don't get enough nutrition, your facial bones won't grow to full size and your teeth won't have enough room to grow in properly.
Dr. Weston Price was the head researcher for the ADA in the 1940s and he traveled the world studying various peoples and their diet and how it related to their dental health. People in more primitive cultures with no access to processed foods, refined grains, or sugar had perfectly straight teeth with the wisdom teeth too, and cavities were very rare.
People in Western modern cultures had the problems.
You might assume that it is a genetic issue, but the best genetics in the world won't be enough to make up for not having the building blocks to build the body according to those blueprints.
I mention this because some of you might have children, or will and hopefully could avoid having wisdom teeth taken out as well as avoiding orthodontics.
As far as anesthesia, best to take the pain meds before you feel the pain. They need time to get up to maximum effectiveness.
