Just what the economy needed

Wow, I sure learned a lot from this thread. Clearly there are MANY(if not all) intelligent people here. Let's not judge one's intelligence on years of college----that could bite you in the arse someday. I agree with many points made here on both sides of the discussion----they're all good, and all have the right to fight for what they believe in----AND speak their mind about it!! Saying you are more intelligent than someone else without knowing anything about them is arrogance, not intelligence. Now, I've got to go read a good book, increase my knowledge, and fire up the heating pad because my back is killing me from working my ass off today!!!!!

Thanks Dennis, I don't know if I'm all the smart but I try. If I am smart god deserves the credit not me. I certainly don't feel I'm better then anyone else and I try to listen to what other people have to say. One thing I know for sure is that I don't know everything.

I'm glad the strike is over. I hope everything works out for all the US Automotive Companies, shareholder's and all their workers.

I personally see strikes as a horrible way to get what you want out of life and also see Unions as a real joke with the Teacher's union being the biggest of them all, but onto GM....

I honestly believe that if our auto companies (GM/Ford/Chrystler) would just make cars that were up to par with the standards of the rest of the world, they wouldn't be in the shithole they are today. Truth be told, China won't even accept our cars because they get such horrible gas mileage. I honestly believe if they start making cars that are we well made as European/Japanese cars, they would be thriving.
 
Do they still put the stickers on cars showing what percent of parts are made in the U S? Dont get me started on what we pay cops, firefighters, and teachers in this country. This whole country needs a gut check...

Unions don't make you strike..Members vote as to strike or not

If the Hall is a hiring hall and work is available..the hall will put you work as long as your in good standings and your dues are current..

Not the case Joe. I have EXTENSIVE knowledge. Being a member Joe ,you see one side. I hope you see both one day. I see both as I have to hire and work with union labor. Currently I am employing Local 3 in NYC.

1. I owned a Cadillac dealership for 25 years. I had to hire union mechanics.
2. I currently own a business in a union building in NYC. I have to use union labor for my renovations.
3. I was educated in labor relations to prevent the abuse of honest people.
4. I contract union electricians and carpenters to build out data centers for banks globally.

You can jump shop to shop when you are a card carrying member in good standing. But what does that mean?

The sales guy from Shop A didn't get the bid.
All of the union members currently employed by shop A are out of work.
The sales guy from Shop B got the bid.
All of the benched guys form shop A (hopefully) go to work for Shop B at the new account.

Unions dont fire people, literally, because the people are a profit center for the union.

Unions dont make you strike. Your demands make you strike. Why, I dont know. I couldnt imagine walking off of my job and standing in front yelling as a method of getting my job back at a higher rate. Time to revise the striking method. I have caused "The Rat" to be blown up on several occasions for RIDICULOUS reasons. Most recently for using non-union movers in a union building. Ill let them blow that thing up on my front lawn if it saves money.

Remember Joe, this is a debate, dont get angry.

In Chicago you may have a different experience.
In NYC when a Local 3 member is sitting in his Lexus RX400, sipping Starbucks , with flyers on his windshield stating why he is striking, it loses its effect. This is what we see on Wall St, dont be fooled. These gents are earning $150k w/ OT.
