Keeping cat off car hood

I park in an underground garage in an apartment complex. It's gated, but the gate itself is a bunch of bars. There's a cat that has been sleeping in the garage for over a year. There are over thirty other cars in the garage, yet I keep finding the damn cat on my car hood. Every single morning (and even in the afternoons) when I go to drive out, I have to spray and wipe the hood of the cat stains. I neglected to do this last year, and the cat already left permanent etching onto the clear coat. Any suggestions to get this critter off my car? It must enjoy the smooth, clean, waxed surface. But it is unacceptable for it to leave sweat smears on my car.

I'm in the same situation as you - open garage + cat on hood. They love warm hoods on cold days, so that might be one of the reasons why it likes your vehicle over others (if you go in & out a lot).

I've tried just about every remedy suggested, and in the end: trapping the cat has been the only solution that worked. Go to the local animal control and ask to borrow a trap. Some feral cats have no fear/stubborn. The last one I trapped fought a few times with raccoons & skunks over food. Tough son of a gun. Tried predator scent with little to no affect.

I'm actually dealing with a new one as we speak. There's muddy paw prints all over the hood & roof, which I'm going to have to hose off tomorrow and go borrow another trap on Tues.

Sadly, it appears your only "humane" way to deal with such is a live trap.
Hopefully, you might have a no kill shelter in your area?

I'm plagued with the same here, and in fact have a local cat doing the same on my Tahoe the last two days in a row.

Although my Tahoe commonly sits covered with a Covercraft NOAH, I;m sure the little devil is poking holes in that cover left and right, besides possibly clawing up my paint finish.

I'm in a dilemma here myself.

Hose them off. Sneak up on the cat. Hose him with water. Gentle stream. I did this a few times.

I know this is going to sound silly but water bottles have always worked for me. Place a water bottle on the trunk and hood of the car. This scares and makes the cats hesitant to jump on the car. I have also used milk gallons to get them from my yard

Yes! I've heard that the water bottles create unnatural light reflections that cause fear in cats.

Put a little cat food on the cars of the kitty cat supporters.
I have a few other ideals but this is a family forum,,

@ allenk4,, a dab of Coyote urine on a cotton ball ?
Hey that might work?

Maybe AG needs to start offering Coyote urine.
Top shelf PBL pure urine not some cheap watered down wizz.

On second thought a cat on the hood is better then a pack of yotes ?

Bob ;)

Then, you have to use mountain lion (back to cats again) urine to get rid of the coyotes.

Then, it's grizzly bear urine to get rid of the mountain lions.

I don't know what kind of urine it takes to get rid of the grizzly bears, but it's gonna' take some kind of crazy wild animal urine to get rid of those grizzlies.:dblthumb2:

Maybe the live trap idea is the way to go.

Pick the cat up off your hood, put cat in car, drive 30 miles in any direction, let cat out, done.

That's a good idea...it'll probably let me pick it up. Look that this guy...third time today! Won't even get off my car when I wave my hand at it. Starts meow instead. ...

Sure! Places like WalMart or Target will have these. If you want to be doubly sure the cat's claws won't scratch grab one of those polar fleece blankets and lay it down first then the plastic tablecloth over it. :props:

Maybe obvious, but how do I know which tablecloths are waterproof? Will be at target to check tomorrow anyway.

My car leaks coolant...no cat problem. (Joking)

A spray bottle might be the cheapest method. Squirt him. He'll move. Within a few days he'll get tired of it and move on.

Put some tape sticky side up along your hood and the cat will stop getting up there for a while. Cats hate tape on their feet.

I did this on my car and came out in the morning to a pile of mangled tape as is stuck to the cat soon as it jumped up and immediately jumped right back off the car.

I also had to buy a car cover to protect the car because the cats loved to claw at my brand new convertible top putting some nice claw marks in it. I just about took the cat out to the shooting range that day!

If you have the money....go straight to Yeti urine

BB gun... if you can do it without hitting the car. W won't kill him but will hurt him and might give him the hint.

Wolf's urine is the most notable of "chemicals" for use as a cat deterrent.
I use to buy mine from the "Pee Man" up in Maine:
It was kinda greenish: Made the Wife a little squeamish.

AGO now carries several Wolf's Chemicals...
There's even at least one of a "meanish-greenish-nature".
As to cats:
Don't know how well...it will repel.

Wolf’s Chemicals Mean Green Rinseless Car Wash

Electric deer fence.

I have an old friend that moved to Northern California and the first night his car had three cats sleeping on it. He built a two by two wooden frame, covered it in lightweight chicken wire and hooked the deer fence unit to it. Cat touches it and ZAP! Doesn't kill them but they jump five feet in the air and head for the hills. He says it only takes him ten seconds to open it in the morning when he drives off and ten more to shut the front after he parks for the night. Then he just flips a switch on the side of the garage and no more cat, possum, raccoon, deer or any other critter problem.

He got it from "deerbusters"
Plug -In Fence Energizers | Deer Busters

Best hundred bucks he ever spent.
