After 45 years of making music, KISS finally gets their own station on XM.
 
One of the most overrated bands of all time, IMO, but the outfits and makeup were cool back in the day.
 
Kiss was one of the 4 or 5 acts that if I could separate the music from the act, I liked the music. But the theatrics ruined the quality of the music, to me.

But that's just my opinion.

-making money: lots, and lots of it
-making music(?): not so much.

KISS was 10% music, 90% show; Gene Simmons never hid the fact he was gonna wring every last penny outta the whole spectacle.

The fact that they had a few iconic songs (very few) was just a byproduct of the machine running as intended. Paid your $9, got exactly what you expected...entertainment.

Much rather be entertained than watch Eddie Vedder mope about the stage in a flannel shirt, singing about the tortures of being a rock star...depressing.

Music should be an escape, the soundtrack of a life. Hear a KISS song now, don't think of the musicianship (or lack thereof) but sure does conjur up memories of some really fun times.

Certainly wouldn't have my satellite radio tuned to their channel much but the occasional trip back would be fun.
 
Call me when they have a Black Sabbath channel. ;)

Keep it simple stupid is exactly what their music is, with great production.
Garage band kitsch that my younger sister loved and I thought was goofy garbage.
 
I loved their Hot In The Shade album they released in 1989.

Eric Carr was one of my favorite drummers, especially back then.

I never really got into their older stuff though. I've had to play plenty of it in the various bands I've been in over the years, but I never cared for it.

I did however enjoy the open mic nights in my 20's, where I'd do a jazz-metaled up version of Cold Gin. Yeah, I was show boating, but in my defense, I was out to conquer the world back then...
 
Kiss is only ok to me with a few songs that I love but they definitely knew how to market their product.

I like the metal midgets show that was on,,,back in high school I liked thrash metal like Anthrax,Overkill,Exodus,,etc etc but I only listen to it once in awhile anymore,,now I am more outlaw country but I was back then too,,I always had a Waylon or Charlie Daniels tape with me too.

Nothing wrong with CDB or David Allen Coe. In my mind, even Levon Helm and the The Band are in that genre. All great stuff that mankind will never hear the likes of again........
 
They definitely had marketing down to an art form. For over a decade I knew who they were and what they looked liked with makeup but didn't know a single one of their songs until Lick it up came out and I heard it on the radio.

I Was Made For Lovin' You is their only song I can listen to and it's ironically more disco than anything lol
