After starting (company) I received a letter in the mail that I must post current compliant State & Federal 2015 Employment posters in the workplace if I have 1 or more employees.

My question is this required for me considering I am the only one in my company? Do I count as one employee?

If you're "self employed", I would consider you an "employee" of the company you started. So you would therefore be the "1" or more employees working there.

You are not the "company", but just an "employee" who happens to own and work for this company.

I would say yes, this will be required.

Depends on how you want to look at it. You can state that you're owner of the company, not really an "employee"; vise-versa. Are you in a dedicated space or are you working out of a garage? It wouldn't hurt to post them by any means, but if space is tight, I don't think there would ever be an issue if they weren't posted for you. You know the regulations if you're LLC'd.

I've never seen a small business with one employee post this. A local graphics shop I stopped in at, one room, him and a PC. No sign.

Give the state a call and explain your situation and they should be able to help you make the decision. If you plan on hiring in the future I would just do it anyway so it's one less thing you need to worry about during the hiring process.

:wow:

What a convoluted, and discombobulated
display of nescience...and misinformation!

I seriously doubt that a more perfect example,
proving that you are not properly credentialed as
either a Business Law, IRS Tax, or D.O.L. expert,
could ever be so similarly devised.

Umm.... is he going to report himself to any government agency if he doesn't post it ???? Is anyone (who says he should) considering the intent of the mandate to begin with?

The following is a brief and general list of those not required to post any workplace notices:

Sole proprietors with no employees
Businesses solely employing contract employees
Businesses with an all-volunteer workforce
Family owned business where are employees are related

Thank you everyone, for helping give me some clarity or direction on these business technicalities. I will contact someone in the appropriate department for answers.

Spent the other day at the bank starting a business account then for good measure gave into forum peer pressure and just ordered Renny Doyle's book. I guess you can say I have come a long way from lol oh my new car but duh how do I take care of it?, to friends saying how much to do that to mine?, to have you considered turning this into a business? 18 months feels like yesterday. :work:
