Lake Country Backing Plate System

With the Lake Country backing plate system,it as a washer and 2 shims with the screw. What are the shims used for? Are they supposed to be used with the 4" or 6" backing plate,or both? And where exactly do you put them?

The shims are placed between the 6" plate and the gear plate.

Ok So both shims are used for the 6" backing plate and they aren't used/needed for the 4" BP?

That is correct, they should be used with 6", but not need with 4".
