Please briefly explain which material you think is a better choice and why. This will guide my next purchase (buying for my flex), and maybe someone elses'.
Thank you

Can't speak for the flat pads, but the hybrid fit the flex backing plate absolutely perfect because of the recessed back on them and are very nice pads.

Is that the 5'' hybrid on the lC system (4''bp)? What size BP were you referring to?

Tato (Rafael) quote taken from my smack technique thread on what makes the Hybrid pad so special on the 3401.

I think so. Pads are different, for sure, but it's also a matter of personal preference as well, and product quality being used is even more important...

Hybrid pads helps working the products (specially diminishing abrasives) accordingly.

When you exert pressure on an Hybrid pad it will increase the cut (like any other pad), but at the ending passes on a section, when you release pressure, it'll not only reduce cutting power but it'll change the feel like a finishing pad. The 'hybrid' characteristic of this pad line is what differentiate them from 'the rest'. It puts you closer to the 'One-Step' more often.

The format (~perfect fit velcro + beveled edge) is also a pleasure to use.

I don't think you'll need 12 pads at all, try 2-3 orange 2-3 white at first, you'll be able to do a lot of work with them.

Hope that helps,

Hybrid pads are truly the bee's knee's on the 3401. Especially with Menzerna polishes. This setup is a match made in heaven.

If you are going to buy a specific pad lineup for the Flex, make sure you grab these pads. They are also a dream on the PE-14.

Thanks to your thread, I've placed an order for these.
Pretty much everything that has been used down to the pad conditioner, lol.
Time to put away the M105/M205/CCS Pads and move up to something more user friendly. Can't wait.

Mike,
Thanks for responding. Also, thanks for specifically locating that piece from Tato, and for your write-up. I didn't get the time to read the whole article yet, but I will make it a point to do so.
One of the reasons I started this thread is because Mike highly recommended the hybrids for the Flex, but I never asked him why. I try not to bother him with time consuming questions that are not ultra-important.
I was also trying to lay hold of the thought behind the developement of the 4 3/8" and 4" backing plates for the Flex, and I was trying to piece backing plates size(s) with certain pad(s). For example, the flat pads may work better for the 4 3/8" bp.
I'll just stick w/ the hybrids and the 4" plate that I already own.

I was referring to the 6.5 pads with the factory backing plate.

Sounds good. Dont hesitate to ask questions. :xyxthumbs:

When you have a chance provide a bit of feedback on my smack technique thread if you dont mind.

Sure thing. No problem.

There is good reason why Mike, myself and others recommend these pads on the 3401.

Stick with the Hybrids.

Yeah really like the 6.5's. Especially the white polishing and black finishing pads.

Man, I must be a wuss. I used a 6.5" orange Cobra pad on the Flex today, and I quickly went back to the 5" hybrids. The 6.5" shows the beast in the Flex.

Yeah they definitely take a little more effort.
