I found a 4" orange pad I bought several years ago that has a concave face instead of being flat. Are these for a special application, or can they be used like a flat pad?

Are you sure that pad has not simply failed?

I have had a few pads (over the years) turn into more of a concave shape due to exposure to extreme heat for extended periods of time... ie over working them.

Care to share a pic of what you are looking at?

Exact same thing here.
Due to heat it pretty much concaved.
Has happened with a lot of my pads unfortunately.

Have never heard of these VC pads before...

Care to elaborate on the design and why it might be beneficial? I read the description on the LC site, but I'm having a hard time understanding why it would be more useful than a traditional flat design.

They work great on a rotary if you run the machine on an angle. If you run the machine flat, it may not work well with you.
