Will 6.5 inch LC pads work on a 5 inch LC backing plate or are they too big? Probably gonna be ccs pads

I've seen people use that set up, but you're giving up a lot of pressure around the edges. I've tried it and it was very uncomfortable.

Obviously, if you can pick up 5.5" pads, or a 6" plate, you'd be better off.

Backing Plates should be 1/2" smaller at most on normal foam pads. If it is too small and the pad is say 1" thick then there is a lot of pad distortion which increases heat and risk of the backing plate hitting the paint. Would you use a 6.5" backing plate on a 5" pad (of course not).

Yes you can but it isn't the optimal setup like what the rest mentioned. Doing so would cause too much stress on the center and does little correction at the edges. Of course you can adjust your technique and swap pad often to get it work for you but a pad larger than plate by 0.1 to 0.5 inch is still preferred, at least for me.

if you use the 5'' DA backing plate with 6.5" pads the outer edge around the backing plate will start to mushroom (cookie cutter effect) in over time when you apply pressure. use the correct backing plate with the appropriate pads. 5" DA backing plate = 5.5" pads / 6" DA backing plate = 6.5" pads

Obv a 6.5 inch plate wouldn't work on a 5 inch pad. Wasn't sure about the other way around. Thanks for the info everyone
