Large rusty water spots, how to get them out?

Hello,

I have a 2009 Nissan Murano black and I need some advice on how to remove some spots that were caused by a leaky pipe above my parking spot. The pipe is pretty baldy rusted so when the water was dripping on the car, it was mixed in with the rust. I have not noticed this right away (it mostly leaked in the back, on the roof of the car) so it looks like once the water dried up the rust is now etched into the clearcoat.

Does anyone know how to take this out? Gently washing with car soap didn't do anything, and I wasn't really expecting it to.

Would claying potentially help or do I need to polish? Hand polish vs mechanical tool polish? Do I need to apply any products to do anything with the rust 1st (read something about some checmical processes that have something to do with iron), some sort of "decontamination" kit? Hell, some people said to pour cola on it? heh.

I would appreciate some good advice!
Thanks!

PS: love this site! :)

Try a paint cleaner product or a light polish and this will usually work....

I think i have some Wolfgang Total Swirl Remover 3.0 from last year.
Thank that is a bit aggressive or just right? Would doing it by hand with some polishing pads be enough?

IronX might work on the etched rust, after that a mild polish will do! (wg tsr is okay to use by hand!)
