Not really. Several manufacturers have done it with non-metallics like white/black. Honda with Taffeta White is a prime example.
 
I just did my nephew's 1995 red Grand Am that was severely oxidized and swirled, it didn't even look like it had been touched by a hack detailer. I used a yellow polishing pad and Megs Ult Compound on the car and the pads came out black. Hadn't clayed the car (mistake) and there must have been a ton of embedded dirt in the paint that was pulled up by the compounding to change the color of the pads like that.
