Hi All,

I was curious about this procedure. Most people here use a leafblower to dry a car before detailing it. I'm concerned because the wind produced by a leafblower is pretty strong therefore it is more likely for the wind to pick up dirt/dust and make it fly back to the car's paint surface. The next step will be claying so the clay will pick up the dirt and scratch the car, no?

What's everyone's opinion on this?

I've always done it when drying, never had a problem, less touching (towels) = less marring.

I use and prefer a metro blower for drying most of the car and crevices so I limit the dripping and towel drying.
Since the area around the car is already saturated from the wash, dust is not an issue.
I tend not to wash/dry my car much during extreme pollen season and oak flower fall because of what you describe. Those little oak flower grains are a major pain to remove from a MF and will scratch your paint. I would rather have a dirty car. Next year I hope to have a CR spotless rinse unit for just such an occastion.

I dont have a leaf blower for the yard, I do have one for my cars. As long as you use and store it properly, should not be a problem. Worked for me for many years !

What I meant was that when you use the leaf-blower and the air it produces gets to the ground, picks up the dirt/dust, stirs it up in the air and then lands on your paint. I think this is very likely to happen, don't you guys think? I'm not talking about the dirt that's in the leafblower itself because that's easy to remove.

not if the general area under and around the car is soaking wet from your wash.

Bingo! Not a problem at all.....It's the only way I dry but key to the process is having a well waxed or sealed finish. I never need to take a towel to my car at all in the drying process as long as heat and or sun angles aren't too high

I keep it above finish level, and as offered ground is damp and usually washed down from presoak and wash prior.
