Learning to detail

Detail King Training!
I attened my first Detail Training in PA at Detail King. I must say that Nick Vacco put on a Great 1 Day hands on Seminar. I was reluctant to go, but I'm glad I did. It will be well worth your while to go to his training siminars. I was able to learn first hand from Nick paint chip repair. He got right in there and did the work too. Previous trainees, and Nicks staff were all very out going and ready to assist us in learning the techniques. I was very impressed. We were able to walk in the warehouse and showroom, which was stocked with all the Detailing Goodies that you could imagine. Detail Heaven!
I just want to give my Thanks to Nick and the entire Detail King staff, trainers, and Thad. This professional taught us how to repair leather, vinyl, and cloth interiors. This gentleman and his wife were Great instructors too.GREAT SEMINAR, Nick! You have earned my respect, trust and business.

If you dont mind me asking how much was it?My buddy told me for me to sit in during the exterior and interior training all day sunday it would be roughly $149 and it would be from 9-4:30 with lunch included.

How much do you charge for detail training? How does it compare to what Kevin offers (if you know). Where in Texas are you?

Hello, I'm in San Antonio and I charge $100.00 per day to learn the basics of paint prep, diagnose the paint and correct it. Then we try and get into some interior work also.

The main difference between Kevin and our training is that Kevin has been providing training for a lot longer so I am sure he is more structured in his teaching.

Take care,
Anthony

I've been working on, around, and under cars for some 15 years now, and just about all of that has been on my own, trial and error. When I have questions, I look to the forum boards or work it out myself. It really depends on what type of learner you are. I need to be hands on and work things through, having someone tell me what to do just doesn't cut it for me.

If I were to go, or send anyone else to any training seminar it would be to Detail King, mainly 'cause they're in Pittsburgh and I'd want to catch a Pens game.

Getting some training is far better than just learning on your own or trying out various products.

What type of paint are you working on?

What type of stain are you dealing with? Oil based, protein, etc ?

How do you effectively remove smoke odors, spoiled milk, gasoline?

Can you use that type of wheel cleaner on those type of wheels?

Is that leather coated or aniline?

How do I remove stains from Alcantara.....or could it be natural suede?

There's a great deal more to proper (quality) detail and reconditioning work than just trying out different products and watching videos on Youtube.

I've always thought that if a student brings their vehicle and polishing machine and a pro instructs them by while they detail their own vehicle to be the best of both wolds- knowledge / hands-on training (especially with rotary polishers)

Just a thought. . . anon
