In the interest of preserving as much clear coat as possible over the lifetime of my vehicles, I'm curious as to the least aggressive polish you guys use to remove clay marring. I have been using Meg's M205 to remove it, but I'm wondering if this is a bit more aggressive than is needed.

I have no experience with Menzerna products and would like to try them, so I was thinking of picking up some SF4500 to remove clay marring. Do you guys think this is aggressive enough to get the job done, or am I already using the least aggressive polish (M205) for this type of defect?

I'm generally left with pretty light marring after I clay, nothing too deep.

SF4000 should do the job. i have not used SF4500, but from product sheet for Menz it should work as well.

SF4000 worked for me on a 2015 Jetta I worked on recently. The paint marred up instantly after using Clay magic fine clay.

Depends on the relative hardness of the paint. M205 for me on hards, Menz fine polishes with a softer pad on mediums to softs.

I'd say with just clay marring you should never need much. Make sure you lubricate liberally and do not use any more pressure than absolutely necessary.

Unless the cars paint is just destroyed, you shouldnt have to polish out a car from just clay. I use sf4500 on a white pad right now if needed.

Menzerna SF4500 should do the trick. It has very little cut and is an excellent polishing compound. It will take care of marring real easy.

White Pad or you can jewel with a Gold Pad if you ride has no scratches.

Autopia has a polish aggressiveness chart on their forum. I like to use it when trying to remember which polish goes when. It is a very good guide to the different grades of polishes.

I'd start out with something very mild
such as: 3M Imperial Hand Glaze.

Then, if necessary:
Moving up to something a little more aggressive
such as: Meguiar's M305.

And so on...

Thanks for the info everyone!

I actually have an old bottle of 3M machine glaze that I didn't even think to try, thanks for that idea Bob. If that doesn't do it I'll order SF4500.
