LED v.s. Fluorescent lights in the garage

I've heard a lot of good things about the HO T5 florescent bulbs. I was surprised at how small the T5's are when I saw them at Home Depot the other day! I am starting from scratch in an old 2 car garage: It's a pretty square space. Any specific housing I need to get for them?

Just installed these lights in my garage. Super bright. Pricey, though, as you would expect from LEDs.

This thread has some good information. Depending on what your budget is and how you want your electric bill to be, there are few options.

For me I had a couple LED bulbs that I was looking at and also was looking at some high output t5 or T8 fixtures.

One option for the LED bulb is using a 40W LED Flood light. These bulbs will produce 2500 lumens and come in either 4000k or 2800k and have two types of beam angles 36 degrees and 180 degrees.

If you were looking for your most efficient led bulb look at the nanoleaf

Or you could go with the LED t8 tubes that are on the same website as the flood light. Ultimately I went with a bunch of cheaper T8 fixtures that were purchased at Menards.

Thanks DeviousDetail i will try to read them and understand what i need

Hi, of course the LED lights are the better choice. They can working much better and longer, saving much more for you!

You have three choice for this LED lighting transformation.

  1. Buy the LED garage Lamp or LED shop light directly, which as bright as the 4ft LED T8 tubes;
  2. Use the lamp holder with input power wire directly, install them on the wall with a length fit for the 4ft LED T8 tubes;
  3. Purchase some compatible LED tube lamp, and use them in the old fixtures, with this kind new tube, you have no need do the rewire job to passby ballast.

My choice were T5 Florescent fixtures. The cost and output put the available LED's to shame. I really don't care about power usage / costs as they aren't on 24x7.

I use four dual bulb 4ft appliances that were $35ea and all together they put out nearly 40k lumens. My garage is super bright. Add in two 100w LED's in my garage door opener and it's perfect. Now I just can't wait to get the whole garage painted to reflect even more light!
