I have a Lenovo w700 running on Windows 7 ultimate x64. When I start up the computer, it takes around 3-5 minutes for the fingerprint logon to stop saying 'please wait.' Does anybody have this issue / have a workaround?

I tried rolling back the driver, reinstalling it, making sure the software was up to date, and re-enrolled my fingerprints.

I have asolutely no idea how to solve your problem, but I wish you the very best at resolving this issue :)

If GEWB (Gary) see's this thread, and responds, you will have a correct answer

Tried cleaning the lens? Gunk build up is a big issue with the readers.

I assume you did not have an issue at some point and you now have an issue. What changes have you made? Install win 7?

Did you check the Lenovo support site to see if there are any updated drivers?

Correct. It used to work fine, then began to have issues. I have made no changes, and if I reinstall the fingerprint software, it works for one logon, then stops working.

Sounds like a bug on Windows 7 Ultimate. I have Ultimate 7 x86 and kept having the blue screen of death and random freezing and my computer would restart by itself.. I narrowed it down to Windows Live Messenger. Deleted it and now its back to running perfectly.

Basically Windows 7 is a HUGE step up from Vista but it still has its oops moments.

So what would you advice be in this case? I don't mave messenger, so that's not it. How could I track down the offending program?

Sounds like a job for the Geek Squad . Or maybe you should try doing a Google search for the same problem .

Definitely NOT a job for expensive Geek Squad.

Heres my suggestions.

1. Download Malwarebytes (simple google search and you will find it, very legitimate program I use it every couple of weeks to maintain my PC.) Scan your computer for infected files (trojans, malware, spyware, viruses, etc). Make sure to check the "Full Scan" option. Once files are found and automatically "quarantined", you will have the option to delete them. Which I would go ahead and do.

2. Windows 7 is good on indexing but I would recommend Defragmenting your hard drive (most likely won't fix your touchpad issue but will make your computer run much smoother)

3. Narrowing down which program is causing which problem is tough and takes a lot of time and patience. I happened to know it was Windows Live Messenger from narrowing down my time frames. I also keep a solid look on what is and isn't on my PC.

4. Use Firefox or Google Chrome as your browser and DO NOT USE Internet Explorer. After installed Firefox or Chrome, make sure you set either of them as your default browser. After that, open IE and under the preferences make sure to raise the security bars to HIGH and disable cookies. Also, delete the Cache file and delete all cookies.

I've been doing self computer diagnose for a long time now. Seen a handful of extremely annoying trojans and malware. Malwarebytes is one of the tried and true programs to use and its free. You can buy the "full" version (or hack it ;) ).. but i't only unlocks a few different features that aren't really used anyways. Another Windows culprit is Norton, McAfee etc. Any sort of "anti-virus software" running on Windows seems to default the OS somehow causing extreme headaches.

Hope this helps you out, any questions feel free to ask and I can guide you.

Haha, and sorry I didn't mean to come off as offensive either. Best Buy started about 2 miles away from my house. Horrible customer service.
Yes i know it's very hard to help someone with the problems he is having on a detailing forum . I also have spent years building compters and learnig IT as a hobby . I figured Google would be a good start it's easy and you get good results . Have him ship you the Laptop and you get it working right $$$:xyxthumbs:

I'd probably fix it for free. I like being a nerd and solving problems. Especially when its a high of 10 degrees and I can't detail any cars.

My girlfriend and I plan on moving within the next couple of years... The idea is she graduates college and gets a career that can pay for my detailing! Hahaha.
