So I've looked into it and I'm looking into it again! Winter is right around the corner and I refuse to shut down shop for 4 months! Now I know this is bigger in other countries but it's not here yet. I myself believe it will be here soon. I was looking at Diamer and steamjet. Diamer is like $6K and steamjet is $3500. I have a vx5000 and figured I'd give Steve a call to talk it over with him. He told me to go with the VC400-C. I didn't want to hear that because he talked me into getting the VX500 instead.( I wanted the VC4000-c)

So anyone have any thoughts on this?

Are you saying your going to steam clean the exterior (wash) due to the Winter months?

Your not far from me. We hardly get enough Winter here to matter. You might lose 15-20 working days due to incumbent weather, but not 4 months

Your body will adjust to working in 30/40 degree temps...... It actually sounds refreshing right about now

Under 40* and its a pita to dry it. We had a horrible winter here.
Anyways it would be easier and way more comfortable than water.

As long as you have 6 hours for a wash ^ I don't think the water stays warm for long

As far as drying in cold temps.....get a leaf blower

Is steam cleaning exteriors 'paint friendly'? I've seen some that say its ok...but it makes me wonder if it would scratch if the paint is really really dirty...

You tube steamjet or diamer car washing it looks like a pressure washer as in it knocks all the dirt off the car then you go back over it and dry it. Some videos of cheaper steam cleaners look as if you would Def scratch the paint. Detail king shows steaming a car with the VX5000 the triangle brush and a terry clothe on top...nope scratch free as can be....yea right!

Someone on here showed me this one a month or so ago and i thought it was interesting, way out of my price range but interesting nevertheless Steamericas, Inc. | Optima Steam Car Wash Machine | powered by SJE Corporation | © 2010.

Personally i like the pressure washer....blasts all the dirt out of crevices etc...and a blower..or compressed air makes quick work of drying...now...ill say i am in arizona where most of our 'winter' months are 60+ during the day lol

Ive heard that steam cleaning exteriors may strip waxes and sealants, and possible damage rubber and plastic trim. This is just heresay, ive never witnessed it. Either way, $3k on a machine is a lot! Especially if its only use is for a few months of winter.

Worthless

"Instead, it (steam) delivers high-quality clean that can last even longer than the conventional car wash clean."

Really?
I just read that same link and had the exact same thoughts about that quote.

Really? +2

It is interesting though that since this thread was originally posted steam cleaning of paint hasn't seemed to have gotten any more popular than it was when the topic was brought up on this forum.

It could be because the machines cost so much or any number of other reasons.
