Hey guys, I've been looking for the right license plate frame and haven't been able to find it. Please post your thoughts/recomendations? I'm looking for a chrome frame.

Has anyone tried the weathertech or the altec?

I wouldn't waste to much money on a chrome one unless you know who did the chroming. Most are done overseas and within a couple of months they rust.I actaully ended up going to a local Napa store and finding a nice black one nothing to fancy so if it gets ugly can trash it and you know living in florida in the heat and sun all day nothing last too long. You may have better luck finding one in red to match your car.

I bought a really cool stainless steel frame once years ago. It had a tinted glass protective plate, theft proof bolts, very slick! (Might have gotten it from Griot's catalog?)

One day, I'm rolling down the Interstate behind some Goober who tosses his apple core out the window. The Granny Smith WMD does a perfect bank shot off the highway and hits my yuppie license frame, smashing the glass. I couldn't understand why Goob had a silly grin on his face until I stopped for gas.

I don't know which material to get, but if it says "Tampa Bay Buccaneers" on it, it will look awesome!!!Im the MAN

They have really cool carbon fiber frames now too

Thanks Adam, from what I read the chrome over brass can be made to not rust. I should probably go the route you're saying but I think I found the right one that says SKY on it. Hard to find a quality frame that says SKY what with how few Sky's were made!

You got that right!

Do you prefer to have the frame match the paint rather then the bits of trim?
I don't know yet myself. I was thinking with the chrome pieces I have that the chrome frame would fit.

Thanks for the feedback, I'll take a look at Griots as well.

I here you, I just ordered my custom Orlando Magic plate:)
Unfortunately I won't get it for a couple more months:mad:

I saw those. I'd love to see them in person. Picture was hard to make out.

Take a look at this one and let me know what you guys think.

I think the chrome and red on that frame will look great with chrome and red of your car...it looks like a good accent piece.:xyxthumbs:

Wouldn't that qualify it as a handicap sticker?

I found a nice one for my RX350 on eBay. If the Florida heat and rain take a toll, I haven't spent too much.

Actually just bought the weathertech about 5 weeks ago on Meghan's recommendation.

Easy to install, looks great and has been bulletproof so far.

Might be a bit spendy but BMW has a nice chrome slimline frame with 4 holes. I had a hard time finding one that had 4 holes so it wouldn't cause a racket vibrating. Probably about $30 online.

I think the one you posted a pic of would look great! :xyxthumbs:

I can't recommend the Weather Tech ClearCover chrome one. It's not even been on the car for a year and a half and the "chrome" frame rim inside the cover is going bad. And for 6 months of that time the car was parked and garaged (unemployed).

Basically, the chrome rim that runs around inside the frame is just painted with a reflective chrome-like paint. And it ain't holdin' up, so there are small spots (freckles) all over where the paint has disappeared. Just noticed it the other day :(

Most likely just an issue with the chrome finish one, I bet the gold, red, black and white rim plate covers don't have a problem.

I have two chrome Weathertec frames. Both have been on for over 6 mos. Both are top tier and have been holding up great. I had one on a SAAB Turbo ragtop front for about three years and it had no real signs of wear. Buy an extra set of screw covers because you will probably lose one or two in time. AG sells them for $5 or so. Excellent seal over plate too!

I bought a nice narrow chrome set to match the narrow chrome accents running all around the car from Advance Auto three years ago and they still look like new. The car is garaged though.

I usually hit them with whatever wax/sealant I'm using on the body so maybe that helped keep them looking good. First KSG and now WG Sealant.

I see this just got bumped and I noticed the image for the frame I went with is no longer working. Figured I'd go find the link and fix it. Oh, I'm loving it by the way.
