All,

I have decided on purchasing the GG 6 polisher to get into detailing, and remove the light to medium swirls from my black Ford paint.

I'm looking for recommendations on products to handle this. Also, would I start out by using an orange pad with the polish?

I'm thinking 1 polish/swirl remover such as HD Speed, plus a durable sealant such as blackfire.

Here is the kit I am looking at: Griot’s Garage Random Orbital Perfect Starter Kit

^Do I need to order a 5" backing plate as well?

I'm looking to purchase the same DA next month and have a similar situation with my black Hyundai. I was extremely impressed with HD Speed as an AIO with just using the Meguiars DA drill system for a couple of quick passes. The slickness and shine it leaves is the best I've seen in person. I tried it because it seemed to be a favorite around here and depending on the type of pad you use, it can get some nice correction.

You could just pair HD Speed with HD Poxy as HD Speed contains Poxy.

If you get that kit you don't need a 5" backing plate unless you are going to use 5" pads with the DA.

So there is a backing plate included in this kit already? Looks like there is one on the polisher in the picture.

I believe it does as it says right in the description. You should be good to go if you choose that kit.

Griot's Garage 6 Inch Random Orbital Polisher

The Griot's Garage 6 inch Random Orbital Polisher outperforms other dual action polishers because it has a stronger motor capable of producing higher speeds. This buffer operates at 2,500 to 6,800 RPM and has a wider 5/16 inch orbit than its predecessor. The enhanced speed combined with a wider orbit enable the pad to make faster, broader passes over the paint. Imperfections are removed more quickly and completely. The polisher features a powerful 7 amp, 850 watt motor with low-end torque for low speed polishing. A hook and loop backing plate is included.

Great choice choosing the gg6 I wish every newbie would choose the gg6 over the Porter cable.

The porter.cable is a great machine however it's nice to have that extra power the gg6 has when you get more experienced and more into paint polishing the power is there when needed.

The gg6 has a 850 watt motor and It still has its place in every correction I do.
