I've been passionate in detailing for quite a while but I just started doing full corrections n coatings recently as a side job. I've been using Gyeon Cancoat on the last 10 cars I fully detailed and coated. I am thinking to step up my game and try to use a "real" ceramic coating.

How far is the difference between lightweight coatings like cancoat and the real deal? In terms of ease of use, gloss, water behavior, durability, etc...

I'm thinking to try out the Cquartz UK 3.0 btw

Ive only used gyeon pure evo and cancoat evo..plus a non big name brand b4 that. So not as much glass bottle time with different brands as others.

Imo its just a matter of paying attention when applying and whiping off to not leave high spots. Do a section or panel at a time, dont get ahead of yourself. Swap out the towels often.

Some bead better than others. Although cancoat evo is a pretty good beader.

Durability is unmatched...win for glass bottle coatings. Regular decon maintance epecially for a DD is key to its longevity and maintaning self cleaning properities

What is disturbing...at least for me...some/many of the so called 4-5 year up to 7 year coatings last 1/2 the time as can coat and other polysiloxane coatings(lights)
Just because someone says it's a so called "Full ceramic" coating means absolutely nothing in my eyes.
MANY are a joke at even high prices!
Are there ones that do a great job....absolutely....

I'd stick with what you are comfortable with...can coat aint no slouch even up against many full solids coatings....my $0.02

Yeah anything over a 2-3 year coating is a waste imo. For the average bear by the time 2-3 year mark hits its gonna be time for a repolish anyways. Maybe sokner depending on how its maintained

Oh I mentioned it wrong, I am currently using the Cancoat EVO not the original Cancoat.
Btw, how about layering Cancoat, will it increase the durability significantly?? I tried to layer Cancoat before but Idk why I find it to be much harder to wipe off the second layer and I left high spots eventually.

Dont qoute me but i believe The Guz said b4 that there is no benefits to layering cancoat

Don't let these other deter you from trying a true coating. Depending on the coating you choose to try, they will have better hydrophobic, durability and chemical resistance. Gloss is subjective as a majority of it comes from polishing. And you won't notice a difference in gloss on a light colored paint. Some will give that glassy type look.

It gets tricky when trying to be mobile and apply coatings.

With that said CQUK 3.0 is a very good coating. These days they are much easier to apply and a most of them are good.

No it will not.

I've never used Cquartz UK 3.0......but after having tried one of the spray coatings, I decided to give Gyeon MOHS EVO a try. This if first 'real' coating. It was very easy to apply, and I'm very glad I did it.

Some of the people claiming extremely long lives for a coating are using maintenance products every wash.

I will play devils advocate as the same can be said for those that use a wax or sealant. Such as using a spray wax.

Yeah they should tone down the rhetoric a bit or put a disclaimer stating that the claimed durability only applies to cars that sit in a garage all day lol. McKee's has a new 10-year coating

I love the coating lite products. Using Can Coat and its going strong on month 8. CQlite is similar. As TTQ and Guz said in pasts posts, UK3.0 topped with Can Coat is a great choice.

I may try 3D's new Graphene Coating next spring.

Big part of it comes down to how you maintain it.
Have to let the customers know that is not going to last its full potential if you do not hand wash it atleast on a biweekly basis if its a daily driver. And also got to get in those decon washes.

You've got to read the fine print. On my Lifetime coating I have the following clause on page 6.

Our Ceramic Coating has a Lifetime Warranty. Just come back every year and pay to have it installed again

I have used both, and I will never go back to a full blown coating. It’s just easier to wipe on something like Cancoat evo, and then follow it Every couple months with a wipedown of elixr, looks as good as when I used CQ UK, + reload… And took me half the time.

Right now I have 19 months on CQUARTZ lite. About to put on CQuartz UK 3 with possibly Gliss on top (which will be my first non lite coating). I’ll see how they compare in time. I don’t use toppers really. I have some elixir to use as a drying aid but haven’t used it yet. I a,so have Ech2o that I’ve used as a waterless and once as a rinseless.

I hope you tell the customers this in person and not just in the fine print.

I'm of the mindset that one could make a LOT of money applying something like CarPro Lite, and nothing else. It's a way to offer at a lower price point chemical and to a degree labor wise. I found it extremely easy to use, and perform past it's claims.

I like staying in the lines to a degree, and say you get comfortable with Lite, or in your case Cancoat, you cab a pick one of the stronger coatings as a highe4 value option. I'm more familiar with CarPro so for me it would be UK 3.0. I'd also offer Gliss on either the Lite or UK for an up charge (otherwise I'd send them with Reload on them).

Personally I'm only really doing Optimum Gloss Coat right now. I'll take the perceptive lack of performance because I'm not working for enthusiast's who may have a more specific trait from a coating they desire. I'm working for a "civilian" that wants a coating on their car. I've historically been able to successfully manage expectations.

But I do have that CarPro line up ready to go. It's something I'll keep in stock for sure. Lite, UK 3.0, Gliss, Skin. Not 100% on Skin right now. Still needs more testing.

The difference I've experienced is slight application differences. CanCoat Evo is a wipe on/wipe off application. Full blown coatings sometimes require a wipe on and let sit a bit before wipe off.

I offer 2 coating packages...6-12 month Can Coat Evo and 12+ month Gtechniq CSL+EVO

From my experience with the 5~6 coatings I've used, the real difference is in durability, not water behavior.

The high solids coatings lived 24~36 months for me. I typically polish them off and re-apply at that point. They might last longer, but how much so I don't know. Most still show clear evidence of still working when removed. When I used CanCoat, I was able to get 12 months out of it.

Water behavior is more brand dependent IMO. Long ago, the original Blackfire Coating and McKee's 37 v2 Coating behaved just like a sealant. CarPro coatings like CQ UK v2/v3 and TiO2 are very good with their beading. Gyeon CanCoat and Pure EVO are a touch better.
