I know it’s been awhile since I’ve been an active poster (“life happens”), but after a very nice visit with my good friend Richy the other day (about this car) I decided I was long overdue.

I contacted Richy to seek his advice as to what would be the best way to address some paint chips on this vehicle (we all know he’s the master of paint repairs and touch-ups). The paint on this vehicle is tri-coat, meaning it is 3 stage paint; 1- base color, 2-tinted clear with metallic, 3-clear. When the owner dropped off the vehicle he mentioned; the chips on the front were really bothering him and asked if there was anything I could do? Since I’ve never attempted chip repair of tri-coat paint before, I wanted to get the “masters” input (I didn’t know if I needed to be aware of anything special or not). Richy gave me his input, and that’s how I did it. Thanks again for your insight my friend!!
The owner was going to be out of town for 10 days and being this is a garage queen, I was told I could have the car for the entire time  I was also told I had card ‘blanche, I could do whatever I deemed necessary. He said “give it the works, anything you want to do, just work your magic”. When I started discussing coating options with him, he said; “coat it with your finest product”… So that’s what I did!

Here’s the car as she arrived:

Doesn't look to bad from here, does it?

A closer look after stripping the paint...

Wash and Decon:
Car was washed with Megs Gold class and a carpro-us Incredimitt. After blowing the excess water off with my Master Blaster TarX and a dedicated sponge were used to strip the paint of any organic materials, and then rinsed well. After drying the car mostly of water again, it was decontaminated of ferrous materials using IronX and a dedicated sponge, and then thoroughly rinsed again with my PW.

Clay:
Vehicle was then clayed with Riccardo yellow, using ONR mixed @ 1:32 with distilled water (not that there was much left to be pulled after the IronX and TarX treatments).

Paint Correction w/ Flex 3401 (& PCxp for tight areas):
Step 1 = m105 and several yellow B&S pads (80% IPA wipe down).
Step 2 = m205 and several tangerine hydrotech pads (carpro-us Eraser wipe down).

Bonnet all taped up and ready to go:

Lights on:

Getting Better 50/50:

Still got some work here (see the marks by the tape):

Getting much better:

Before & after shots:

Power Plant:
Was treated to an Ultima Waterless Wash wipe down. All dressables were dressed with CarPro’s PERL at 1:1. Fabric hood liner was cleaned with Folex and protected with 303 High Tech Fabric Guard.

Wheels:

Wheels were polished with Mothers Power Ball, Mothers Power Cone, and by hand using m105/m205.

Interior:

All plastics were cleaned with 1Z Enzitt Cockpit Premium and dressed with PERL at 1:1. Carpet was cleaned with Folex, and protected with 303 High Tech Fabric Guard. Leather was treated to Leather Masters, both for cleaning and condition.

Protection:

After 2 very thorough wipe downs with CarPro Eraser; all painted surfaces, lenses, and wheels got the “Finest” coating available!

Glass got polished w/ m105, and Aquapel applied. Trim got prepped with IPA, and Ultima Trim and Tire Guard applied.

A few random after shots:

Remember where the tape was? (all better now)!

Big Jet Air-O-Plane...going by :D

Just after receiving the Finest...Look at that depth!

And of course some real vette porn (one with her top off):

Thanks for looking…
Tad

For some reason:
I like threads about Lil Red Corvettes.

Nice detail.
I'm glad you were careful when taking the pictures you shared above...It's not too often that solar flares are photographed this close to Earth!!

Hey Tad, nice to see you posting again. Occasionally a thing called life gets in the way but as long as the journey continues is what's important! :props:

I like the bright lights and the white reflective surfaces in the garage. :props:

Beautiful work my friend!

Excellent job and excellence pictures!

Hi Bobby, thank you for the kind words my friend!!!

Beautiful turnaround! So were you able to touch up the bumper Knicks?

Thank you! And yes the paint chips turned out great, ("IMHO"). Sorry, I really wasn't going to post this car originally and therefore did not take any pictures before the chips were repaired. I immediately repaired them as soon as the car was decontaminated to allow as much time as possible for curing before coating...:dunno:

Great job Tad !!

Thanks Pat!
