Liquid Behind Radio Screen?

Why do the owners expect you to do? This whole ordeal seems a little odd and fishy to me.

Did you spray products directly onto the radio or apply them to a towel first?

I always worry about unforeseeable damage like this. Has any one ever detailed a vehicle and the power seats or windows stop working? Did the customer expect you to pay for the repairs?

I doubt it was there before, looks like its time to man up and get it fixed or replace it.
I am inclined to agree with Dwayne. Either way you got into this situation, it's going to cost you. If you have insurance $700 is likely just shy of or just more than the deductible to that's really not a good option. Don't pay up and loose a customer, get bad word of mouth and end up on Angie's List. Pay and you may get to keep the customer and be known as a stand up guy.

I have a customer who had someone clean their car before they met me and the guy's wife wiped cleaner on the touch screen radio and left the liquid residue behind to etch the screen. You can see what looks like liquid behind the screen but can tell that it was wiped by the way it looks. It is really etchings on the outside. She was livid about it and the guy never took care of it for her so now I do the car.

Lol.. that may work... lol...

I was actually joking

On a few different occasions I have had a service advisor warranty something that was actually not under warranty. They have the power to do this if they want to. I've never had to give any of them money. Just plead the case and see how the cookie crumbles....you have nothing to lose and $700 to gain

I don't know where you are but I have a few local shops that do instrument panel repairs, and they do steering wheel controls, as well as radio repairs.

To me it sounds like the LCD may be failing. Does the liquid have any color to it at all? If so it could be the LCD panel failing. Did someone say to use a blow drier to try and see if it goes away.

Question 2. Is this a touch panel display?

If they insist on you fixing it ask them if you can remove the radio and have it repaired. If they want it replaced I guess thats all you can do, or loose a customer.

Sort of off topic but this is my concern with steamers. I see lots of posts with guys steaming everything in the car. Theres no way to control all of the moisture and sooner or later something electric is going to be damaged.

Steamers should only be used on fabrics IMO. I see to many ppl going nuts with these things

Is a Tornado a steamer? I thought it was a vacume? If thats the case, then OP, I'm just about 100% certain you did this

Sorry again for the misfortune. I've ripped two seperate doors off two seperate cars if this may be any condolences to you

Here's an idea. Its a long shot, but its worth a try. When you get your cell phone wet, they recommend putting it in dry uncooked rice. The rice draws the moisture out of the cell phone. You could try pulling the radio out of the car and putting it in a box full of uncooked rice. It might work. Like I said its a long shot, but if the moisture can get in, maybe it can get out too. Its worth a try and its alot cheaper than $700.

I had some dressing on a pad and very carefuly applied around the clock of a lexus and it seeped in also . It was just a very little bit so I didnt really worry too much but then the customner told me over the summer months itgrew into a much bigger area . She took it to Lexus and they wanted 3 grand to replace it!

Luckily she told me not to worry about it but did want me to know what had happened .

Ive never had this happen in 9 years of detailing so I do think its a problem with lexus.

What Lexus model and what type of Clock (digital or one of thos I wanna look fancy so I'm going to put a analog pos in the middle like a sore thumb clock?)

Just got off the phone with a Lexus tech cause I was curious... Lexus does seem to have a problem with stuff seeping in between the lens of the control panels on the radios and the HVAC heads... He said they do probably 3 a week at the stealership he is at... mostly because peoples drinks get splashed all over when they have to brake because the aren't paying attention to avoid an accident...
