No, I don't think so..... Prep All is pretty safe, this is also a product created by Dr. David Ghoudussi of Optimum Polymer Technologies when he worked for Kleen-Strip. It wipes smooth and clean. The only thing I'm not a huge fan of is the odor.

I was looking where I could buy this (until I remembered I still have half a gallon of DuPont Prep-Sol somewhere), but I came across a 3M water-based product called Prep Solvent 70. According to the MSDS, it's mostly water, but it's still combustible, and it still has harmful vapors, so I'm not really clear the advantage of it being water-based.

I know Autogeek is a pretty big 3M (and of course their subsidiary Meguiar's ;) ) distributor, I wondered if you had ever heard of this stuff, Mike?

I also thought I read a comment by Dr. G somewhere that he might come out with an Optimum prep wipe, which of course would be great.

I've been doing a good amount of wet sanding repainted cars lately, which I don't mind. I measure the paint and then proceed, but what is really frustrating is trying to remove sanding marks that were done by another detailer.

Especially if you don't get to talk to them and you are kinda left there guessing on what grit they used, how many passes, how much pressure they used, etc...

No problemo... that's what we're here for...

Be careful my friend when machine sanding with a Flex 3401, even with #5000 Trizact discs. Be sure to use an interface pad.

Always being careful my friend, thanks to this whole community and why not count your noticeable contribution, ~50k posts already of careful and well based guidelines.

I'm to sand a small part on a flat surface of my own car's door (after touch up). Instead of finishing it by hand, I'll give #5000 a try with the Flex using your guide cited above (+ interface pad), just to get more even results than by hand. Pretty sure everything will go fine, and I plan on taking some pictures of the process to share afterwards.

Just waiting my micro-painting apparatus to arrive!

Such a great article. Seams alot of guys want to become the wet sand expert, im still learning, and always will be learning, but unless you have sanded out 50 or more custom paint your no where near being an expert, just my 2 cents, so ye all happy wet sanding
