And although your photos look great and it does look better, you show no closeups of the paint, and maybe the clearcoat is only microns thin now.

I will get you a close up tonight. I dont see what it will prove, you can CLEARLY see the scratches in the after pics. I was not and am not trying to hide anything.


I was totally calm. The point I was trying to make is if you are going to criticize someones work at least give some back up or suggestions. Dont just list out everything they did wrong and not explain what you should do to correct it.

Yeah maybe I could down load one of those certificates too and post it here. What I have is experience doing it WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY before Meguiar's taught you that in a 7 hour class. Ive been around painting and wet sanding accessories (spoilers, running boards, step bars etc) for about 11 years now. I am no EXPERT by any means. Never claimed to be, I was simply showing off what I did this weekend. :buffing:

I can see from your photos that the area was improperly sanded

If you sanded with 1500 & 2500 the original scratches should not be visible

After 1500 grit, the scratches you are removing should not be visible

You should only see sanding marks in the direction of the last grit of paper you used

The UniGrit sanding blocks are tiny and totally flat. Great tool, but not designed for this application

5 minutes is inadequate soak time for papers

Don't ever wet sand up to a tape line. You. Can get away with it on a compound/polish...of you try it on a wet sand or even CarPro Denim; you will regret it

As I am not saying you are wrong what you said but this isn't a 2015 M4

Its his buddies 04 Toyota Camry that looked like all the cats In the neighborhood had a yoga class on.

His friend said if the aio didn't do good he was going to paint regardless. So the fear and risk factor was 0%

I am sure the OP wouldn't do this to a high end car without a paint thickness gauge.

He had nothing to lose but everything to gain.

The trunk looks 100% better to me then that wreck he had before.

Too harsh. I am not saying what you said was wrong you where 100% right but every car and situation is different.

That trunk was basically scrap metal.

Good job OP looks good to me. Not 75% better looks like 100% better too me

Well, I actually liked the finished product. I have seen most "detailing experts" here kill the 2K clear coat on scratch resistant & nano paints only by machine polishing it with some crazy techniques (when polishing machine moves around the body in random fashion with different pressure here & there) as very often after pics simply show the burned finish.
Also I doubt many "pros" understand that scratch resistant & nano paints (most modern top manufacturers paints) simply can't be wet sanded because after any products will be used, still finish will remain matte forever.
Finally newer cars that can be wet sanded in the end will need 2K clear coat applied anyway to bring the shine back again.
People think wet sanding is good for any finish, I doubt it.

P.S. Here you can see Maxolen Polishing System at work on Honda, whilst Maxolen are very best Swiss Made car care products in general, here guy just puts abrasive disk on the ground where it touches the small sand & stones for me here professionalism stops even if it's posted by Maxolen "Professional". Also note that in the end finish looks matte & ugly, I can't call it paint correction by no means. They simply killed the paint & made anti advertisement for themselves.

Their polishing system always will be at the top of my choice even if I use many other super car care brands products but Berner proved they are up to it & quality means everything for them & so is for me.

On AG you can only learn from Maestro (a.k.a Mike P) & even he learns from others as I have seen in some of his videos, so what you expect from such arrogant comments from people with no name, no location, city, country?

Good work Don i wouldn't sweat what others say that looks great! Im in Syracuse where are you located in upstate?
 
If you would apply 2K (2component) clear coat on top the scratches would be filled & finish shine.
This is W. European technique after 1K base coat paint, the 2K hardener & clear coat is applied to make finish glossy, this is called 2 component clear coat, in pressurized containers that must be shaken for 5 minutes so hardener & clear coat mix good, this is mostly used by DIY paint, headlights repair etc. where paint shop equipment with spray guns is not available, such pressurized containers are of very high quality if it's written on them 2K Klarlack (2 component clear coat), very hard & clear layer good to spray as a paint finish.

Outstanding Don!!! Nicely done good sir. Clearly, a sanding operation would have provided far better results than using a rotary and wool.

I too would have asked permission and then proceeded with a sanding operation. Let us know how his reaction goes.
