Talked to Tuscarora Dave today and he is doing well. Thanks again everyone.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well, I went over to TuscaroaDave's today and we had a great day. I learned at least, if not more, a years worth of information from him. He is a great and kind man with lots of knowledge to share if he has the time. He let me use his machines so now I feel comfortable getting my own to tackle our families cars.

I brought him a bit of a challenge with my hood today and it took us, by us I mean him, a few hours to figure out the best way to tackle to issue. We, again he, determined that it seems that my hood had a crap ton of oxidation on the clear coat for some reason. We cleaned and clayed the hood with red clay to set up our palate.

After using a DA, a Flex and then his big Makita with a wool pad and several rounds of Meg's 105 and 205 we dented the oxidation. After some brain storming he decided to go with a foam pad on the Makita with his "rocks in a bottle." That was the ticket.

After throwing the big boy and foam pad with rocks at it we, he got off the oxidation. After that was taken care of I took the Meg's 205 with a DA and went to town polishing out what the "rocks" left behind. We then gave the car a wash and polished her up again with the Makita and then he let me use the Flex. I don't remember the last product that we used even though he said it several times. It was something 501 I believe and it was blue.

I must say I would love to have a Flex, but the budget is more of a GG DA budget for now. I have considered the HF DA, which I got to use with Dave, but I like the warranty of the GG DA. Thank you to everyone that pointed me to Dave.

Dave I can't thank you enough for sharing your time and knowledge with me today. Thanks again sir.

I have included some before and after photos of the hood. What a major difference that was made today.

I'm sorry if this is in the wrong place, but I wasn't sure where to post this. Does anyone know of any good detailers in the Harrisburg/Lancaster, PA area? Any help would be appreciated. I am debating on whether to have someone work on my car or do it myself since I've never used a machine and I need a machine compound, polish and wax. If I get a machine I'm looking at the dewalt circular polisher. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Barry Theal or Ken Allwine. Two very high end guys.

I had a nice time as well Mike.

It was very nice having you over to my shop. It was nice to have a challenge to work out on the paint correction front as well.

Compounding and polishing paint is very therapeutic to me. Lately my head has been full of all sorts of racing thoughts due to the death of my boy "Colt the Bolt" (see avitar photo) so an all out war against some pretty tough paint oxidation, some teaching and just having a really nice guy over to the shop, helps me purge some of the stinking thinking that's been going on lately.

The Reuben sandwich at the end of the tunnel didn't hurt either. Thanks again for the dinner, it was nice to sit and break bread together and just talk for a little. Don't forget about me when you throw that brisket over the coals at your church function. Tuscarora Dave and brisket go well together!!

Thanks for posting up the photos and sharing your experience of how things went during your visit to my shop yesterday. TD

You were definitely in good hands with Dave as he is a very knowledgeable guy. Good to see you got it taken care of.

I absolutely love hearing about these stories of someone who is maybe less experienced being helped by a pro. This just furthers my image of Dave as one of those pro's who has a wonderfully compassionate side as well. Glad you hooked up with T Dave, Mike.

I understand fully how detailing is therapeutic too, Dave. Sorry to hear that you need that now but i know exactly what you mean and it does help to reset the brain and its emotions. I've used it for exactly that same affect at times.

Could that last (or second to last) product be DuraGloss 501? I love that stuff!

Yes, it was DG 501. I didn't have a good clear sealant on hand, and was recommending a polymer over a wax, so I opted for a last polish with 501 as it does last a long time as an LSP.

Mike and I made a definite improvement, not quite perfect, but I really wasn't expecting such a challenge either. We did the best we could with the time I had set aside for the project.

I'm sure you did, brotha! And was just another example of how this forum extends to a couple of fellow "geekers" who, by adjacency, can share the passion.

I have done it myself a few times and i feel as good as the visitor doing it. Thanks, Dave, for furthering that feeling to Mike.
