and what about using 105 but w/ a more aggressive pad?......

That's a good point. You could try the 105 with a cutting pad or microfiber cutting pad. I'm not a big fan of 105 because of all the dust. It does have pretty good cut though. I'm really surprised the 2000 didn't remove it. Where they are looks like a fairly safe place to sand. I assume you are using some kind of block when sanding?
