Looking for a an affordable mattress yet comfy

Do not let the salesman steer you toward the "Stearns & Foster" (high end Sealy I beleive). Others, as well as me, experienced sagging. When I tried to follow up with the warranty I was told that it had to sag "X" number of inches below the level to qualify as faulty (It was something crazy like 4"-6"). Anyway, a lot of money shot. Just telling you so hopefully you can avoid the trap.
Funny you should mention Stearns and Foster as they are on clearance at a local mattress place. I was thinking about checking them out. Also the amount of sag thing I read about on Eopinions.com. One guy mentioned he just added weight when they came over to inspect the matress. He removed it before he let ehm in and got his warrenteed. Definatly going to pay close attention to the warrenty.

Visit a local mattress store and find the model you want. High end stores also carry mattresses like Macys and such. Then call 1-800-Mattress (you can leave the last s off) and they always beat the deal. Here locally they stock most items and delivery within the day. Beat Rooms To Go and we too have a pillow-top Sealy with 20 yr warranty.
Wonder if they have free shipping? I looked on their web site and they don't show the Sealy Poster Premier. Which is what we are leaning towards. Still keep them in mind.

I have down pillows (Ralf Lauren) 1000 or more egyptian sheets (thank you Tuesday Morning's for the sale) a down comforter and a down matress pad. You would think I would be dead to the wolrd but nope toss and turn. Also the Tumperpedic is out as I read few complaints from stomach sleepers which I am not sleeping well at all due to sinking in. We are going this weekend to look for a new mattress.

UPDATE:
Well we finally broke down and spent some coin on a new Mattress and box (dog chewed through the old box). She didn't want to wait to see if 1-800-mattress would match or beat it. Basically she just got back for a 15 day mission working 20+hrs shifts, stayed up 32 hrs to get back home and only slept 3hrs on our bed. She had it and so did I. We went layed on a bunch of beds and liked the Simmons World Class Beautyrest (Ann River model). We layed on it for about 30min in the store and went for it. It's a pillow top with a double spring design with a layor of memory foam in between the 2 coil layers and layer of Latex. The Store Manger helped up and I felt he was really straight forward. He gave us his honest opinions on beds and models, he personally doesn't like Temperpadic(sp?) foam beds. Which led me to beleive he wasn't out to sell me the most expensive bed, he went around showing us different models and there pro's and con's. Total cost was $1911 more then I was going to spend but me and my wife are spliting the cost so it's not a whole lot on just one of us.
Here it is Beautyrest® by Simmons - Beautyrest® WorldClass®

Hmm.....I need a new comfy mattress :) That looks real comfy WYstang.

splitting the costs .... dont you know her money is her money, and your money is also her money ????

I wanted to get the temperpedic but I usually sleep on my side and everyone told me if you sleep on your side or on your stomach like I do sometimes, its uncomfortable. If you sleep on your back its the best, but I can't sleep on my back...feels weird lol.

Actually I was going to pay for it on my own, but the one we wanted or felt real nice was above what I wanted to spend. So we put our money in and split it. Funny I alway tell her "Whats mine is mine and what's yours I'll take"

I laid on one at the store and didn't like it, I to am a stomach sleeper so that was out the window for me. Didn't really feel comfy while lyeing on my back either.

Well after this post and not sleeping as well as I use to the wife and I decided to replace our mattress (5 yrs old). Memorial Day specials were everywhere.

We ended up with a Sealy Posterpedic Lakefront Ultra Plush. It listed for 2499.99 at Macys and on sale for 1499.99. (KING) Nicest part, they offer free delivery, free takeway, and free setup. Using their credit card netted an additional 10% off (thats 149.99) and additional 100.00 off for new card. Another nice offering was the free bed/bag set being offered by Serta on this premium model. (free sheet, fitted and fixed, two free pillows, and and cases). For about 1300.00 this was a deal not to be passed up. With 972 individual coils it puts our past premium Sealy to shame. One problem, gotta wait 10 days for delivery, no wonder I am up at 2am.

I did find out some interesting info for those shopping for premium Sealys. They are now offered in three versions. Ultra, Pillowtop, and Firm. Also note Sealy offer two box spring options for height. (standard and short)

Ultra -- egg crate type material (density foam type material) designed into mattress on top of coils for super plush softness. Considered luxury or "premium" hotel offerings.

Pillowtops --- memory foam or egg crate type material sewed above the mattress sitting outside the coils. Euro pillow top simply means it comes to ends of mattress, normal pillowtops end slightly before edge of mattress.

Firms ---- coil system only. No material added into or above for sleeping.

Also note all new mattresses must be fire resistant and this premium model offers a 10 year no haggle warranty. One other bonus, no longer a need to flip these. Have you ever tried to flip a king mattress ??? I cannot wait to get some real rest !

i got a new bed here in the last month, went with latex it was a lil expensive $2k but it wont wear out, stay away from memory foam

my 2 cents
Listen to the man. You buy a matress once every, what? 10 years? Unless you like sleeping in a pit, stay away from memory foam. If you're constantly seeking for the cool spot in bed, take a look at Latex!

I always have neck and back cramps if I dont sleep on a right matress. After switching to Tempur Pedic, my neck/back cramps have become very seldom so I would recommend those. (I sound like an infomercial!)

You can probably get knock offs which feel just the same to me for a cheaper price.

I've always said to never skimp on your shoes and matress. Buy the best!

I concur with the Tempur-Pedic. I have the adjustable one with all kinds of crazy settings and positions. Talk about great dreams. WOW.:D :o
Oh yeah, backpain is gone too.

I didnt know those existed! When I bought them (i have one for each of the rooms in my home) they only had one. Now I found out they call mine "classic" meaning "bottom of the line" haha

I think there are new ones out there that get rid of the "heat" problem (which i never minded myself)

Funny this should be bumped us as we are probably going to take this mattress back. It's just way to soft for me and her and is creating more back problems then my old mattress. Felt great the first 2 and a half weeks (solid sleep), then it started breaking in and just didn't offer the support I need. We may have to chose what from there selection but if they give us our money back (dought it) we will get a Sleep Number bed and set it to what ever firm/soft we need. SO far our backs feels good so we'll see how it feels for the rest of the week and make our decision (probasbly going back).

I had friends that had a Sleep Number and took it back. She thought it was OK but he had trouble with the "heat". He was sweating so badly that he couldn't sleep and every night the sheets on his side were soaked from sweat. Yuk.

Damn it seems like all mattresses have a draw back no matter how much you pay. Still she wants to take it back and get a Seally now and not a Sleep Number. She doesn't think they will refund our money just exchange it for another mattress. We'll see this weekend.
