Hey guys, new to the game and want to go about things the right way. I have a black honda civic and i just noticed these guys. (please excuse the pollen haha) I dont know if they are considered micro swirls or just light scratches

Either way, I'm planning on detailing in a week or two and want to get rid of them. Is there a light cut polish you'd recommend that is reasonably priced? Someone recommended Menzerna SF4000 but that was a bit expensive. I have the Harbor Freight DA polisher and white, blue and black pads. I don't have a polish but have everything else. Your thoughts and recommendations would be amazing.

Thank you! :xyxthumbs:

just get Hyper Polish spray and adjust the cut with the pad accordingly - a light cut pad should eliminate that. it will take out the scratches and finish down wonderfully. i am not sure of the color coding for the pads you have, but i'd assume white is the most cut out of black and blue. if so, white is a little light but it should work. will just take a little more time than pink.

Hyper Polish looks expensive because it's only 18 oz but you only use a little bit and it has a VERY long working time. i just prime the pad by touching the tip of the sprayer in three or four spots and barely pulling the trigger.

imo it's the perfect polish.

I would assume your paint is on the soft side and would absolutely try the Menz polish on those. Consider the fact you might find it useful over the life of ownership on soft Honda paint. Menz 4000 and 4500 work extremely well for me especially on soft clears. I've also used Meg's M205 with both black and white pads on Honda's and have seen excellent results. Plus the work time of Meg's is much quicker than Menz.

Those scratches don't look too bad and trying the least aggressive approach will tell you what you need going forward.

I'm using Lake Country Flat Pads. The white has very light cutting so I figured that would be my go to for this. Going off the polish chart it looks like the Optimum spray is a bit more abrasive than the Menzerna. Considering the pads i have and that i'd probably use white would it be that much of a difference between the 2 and should i just lean towards Menzerna because its less aggressive? I always read to start with the least aggressive and not to mention this is going to be my first time using a DA polisher/detailing too!

I would first try Menzerna 4000 or 4500 with a black LC flat pad first. If that satisfies you, so be it. No need to go any further. If the results do not, try the white LC pad. And then if white pad/4000 reduces them and you want them gone...do it again.

Cool. I'll sacrifice a few extra dollars for the Menzerna considering how much you guys and everyone else recommends it. Thanks everyone for such quick responses!

:iagree:
Very versatile product. Good cut with a more ares sieve pad. Honda paint is usually pretty soft so this should give you all the cut you need and finish beautifully!

Can't go wrong with menzerna. Another good choice for a versatile product is HD adapt.

I recently purchased optimum polish II and used it on 2 vehicles this weekend. I use to use the 3M system I a while ago and I must say the OP2 is amazing. I used it with a cutting pad and it ate through the swirls and minor scratches like nothing on a red caddy. After that I folloed up with OP2 and a polishing pad and wow.
