Looking for a New Ride

Good call Jason. They are really affordable. I took all my detail stuff down to my local Chevy dealer and fit all my junk in one. The only issue will be weight if you want to add a water tank. A 20 gallon will fit in between the hatches that open at the rear and the ones near the front. I still want one badly but Mrs. Pilot has vetoed the idea based on looks. Why she gives a hoot as to what my work vehicle looks like I dont know. There is no use trying to use logic on an attorney. I guess I am stuck with the gas guzzler Jeep for now. I did convince her to let me buy another 911. Go figure. Good luck with the hunt. If you can afford or even find a Panel SS the turbo might give you some more power.

If that works for you, rock it!!! I think they would make nice little mobile vehicles. Plus it's different then the can or pickup truck. Some people like to see that and might even call you first simply because of that. People are weird like that sometimes.

I don't know if its been mentioned before, but a Mazdaspeed 3 would be awesome. It's got tons of room in the trunk because it's a hatch and it's very fun to drive and speedy!

Yeah I can't even seem to find an HHR SS in the area. And when I go to Chevy.com I can't seem to find that model either. Is it not available for the 2011 version?

If I'm going to buy one I might as well pimp it! lol.

I actually just found a 2010 HHR SS. Not a panel one but still would work. I can put my decals on the windows instead. I'm going to see if I can get up to the dealership and take a look at it.

It's new too. So because it's a 2010 model I can get it for a little less money...

I had an HHR as a rental less than 6 months ago.

It would fit most of your goals for a new vehicle - roomy, decent gas mileage, enclosed so nothing gets stolen/ruined in weather and it'd work as a moving billboard with your company's name on the side which PUs could not do (w/o a topper or something of that nature).

I agree with you that they are not the 'best looking' but if you are needing more utility than looks it would work.

Good Luck!!

Yeah I think it will work for what I'm looking for and the SS model doesn't actually look so bad. It's growing on me.

So now I'm maybe going to consider the HHR panel model. I can use it as my mobile rig and put my info on the side of it.

Plus it gets good gas mileage and has ample storage....I don't think it's the nicest looking ride but definitely fits my needs....

Several businesses around me use these. Some of them look VERY sharp with custom paint. Gas mileage is very good (as stated), load capacity must be okay because I know a locksmith that uses one (custom suspension, air shocks?). The engine is small enough that you could rig up a 200 amp alternator from a police cruiser and run all your equipment off a 2000-3000 watt inverter for mobile power (that's my setup). I imagine it would probably tow 600-1000lbs alright, but probably not any more without compromising the drivetrain over time. A fiberglass custom trailer with sleek contours would be very cool.

I gave up my search for a Panel SS and figured the regular SS would work. The seats fold down and even the front passenger seat folds flat. At least you will have the option of using the car for other uses. I did drive all three engine options. If you can score a 2.4 liter go for it. The standard 2.2 isnt the peppiest. The 2.0 turbo has some good kick to it and I found it handled better and was more comfortable in the seat.

The one I found isn't a panel SS either. It's the 2.0 turbo with an automatic transmission. I wanted a manual but there are not many SS versions around here. Plus if I can get a good deal on this one I think it might be well worth it.

I contacted the dealership and just waiting for them to get back to me on if it's still available. If it is I'll probably go up in the next day or 2 to take a look.

I'd like to at least wash my truck before I bring it in. Get as much for it as I can. And polishing out a couple scratches.

Well I'm going to take a look at the 2010 HHR SS tonight. If all goes well and I can get a good price on it. Which I should be able to, it's brand new and has been sitting on their lot.

I did look at the Mazda speed3 I just don't think it will work for me. Not enough cargo space. At least with the HHR I still have plenty of room to put wood and stuff in.

Cool. Lots of ways to modify the look...

I saw that one when I was looking them up. Very cool!

It's silver which was one of my two choices. I would have loved a dark blue one, but found this one. We shall see what comes of it.

Ended up buying the hhr. Pick it up monday

I know I've said it once already, but if your going to spend around 20k on a new HHR, you should at least give some thought to a Jetta Sport Wagen TDI. Now I may be a bit biased driving a TDI myself LOL, but you could get nearly double the fuel mileage. Diesel is more expensive, but it doesnt matter when you can drive 500-600 miles a tank.

Well nvm, looks like you made your decision already lol. Did you get an SS?
