I bought a wrecked 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart here a few years ago and with the help of my dad fixed it up. He has fixed many wrecked vehicles before but isn't very picky. It being my first wrecked car fixing up I didn't know how to do things right either. Long story short my dad and I painted it ourselves. I trusted he knew what he was doing, but it turns out he either didn't care to much how it turned out or something. So It has been a few years since then and in the areas we repainted the paint is flaking off very bad. It is because we never sanded down the old paint like we should have and we didn't use a plastic bonding agent(or whatever its called) for the bumpers.:nomore:
I'm fed up with it and want to have the entire car repainted and a little body work done to it. My question is what are some things to look for when I go around getting estimates? Also, what are some things I should request or ask about from a detailers perspective? I know I want a few extra coats of clear put on, but how many should I get?
If anyone know's of a good bodyshop close to north central Indiana let me know. I would be willing to travel as far as Indianapolis to get it done right.

I asked my family how much they charge to repaint a car. They said $2,000 average for the whole car (just out of curiosity)

(don't quote me) lol
From my understanding a normal body shop sprays 3 coats of CC

I asked some guys I know that do custom work. Chop N' Drop Custom Shop how many coats of clear their customs have. They said 6 because it has the smooth mirror finish (beautiful btw!)

Yea, I've been bracing myself for a price around that range. :( I wonder how good the dealership would do.

See if you can find a custom shop, they work for the customer.

Might be more (can't tell you)

But they'll produce more quality work.

You can try and Plasti Dip you car for the Matte finish, matte finish is pretty cool I think, plus chemical guys sells siap for matte finishes

You cam do it yourself too, don't know the prices though

A shiny plasti dip would be awesome. I can change the color of my car every 3 months lol

I'll have to do some looking around, but I already have a few in mind to look up. I don't really want to go the plasti dip route on my car. I have my rims plasti dipped and some of my chrome trim too.
