Looking for opinions on a finishing polish

Fun? He has a big ass BLACK truck. Not sure fun is the word I’d use for that polishing job or the second job known as caring for a black vehicle.. Rewarding maybe.

Seriously?

Heck, I’m 66 and I could knock out a 2 stage correction on that truck in 3-4 weeks easy…

I think people do themselves a disservice by deciding before they even start that they are using this pad and this liquid and they don't or won't open their minds

I mean you no disrespect

You have the tools at your disposal to most probably get the results you want so start with your weakest combination, run a test spot, stop and assess the results, move on to a fresh area, do another test spot with the next least aggressive combo, stop and assess, and just choose whatever gets you where you want to be with the least amount of aggression

You can't put clearcoat back

There comes a point where you look at paint and know it's going to AT LEAST take X pad and Y liquid and you don't have to always start in the shallow end but that takes putting in hours behind a machine on lots and lots of paint

So well said. I'm quoting it so anyone in the future will have to read it twice.

Test spots are where it's at when dialing in your work. It doesn't matter if you're just trying to improve the gloss on a new vehicle, or trying to erase years of neglect. You always need to try combinations of pads and products to get the best results with the least aggressive approach.

Not only do too many people go into the work with a preconceived idea of the pad/product they use, but many also think they must do a 2~3 stage job because that is what they see the detailers on YouTube do. Not true. I've maintained my cars for years and done a few for other people as well and I can count the times I've done more than a one-step on one hand. Like you say, "You can't put clearcoat back".

The cool thing is as well with the test spots...you have a truck, the roof is perfect as not many are that tall to even see that surface...free canvas:xyxthumbs:

I have two big ass black trucks. The other one has a bigger ass and is currently dirtier than a hooker at 3am

Not mentioned much but gyeon primer besides the dye is a treat to work with and the gloss in my eyes is great. Unlike essence it has no fillers. Just panel wipe after about 15min according to gyeon if you want to leave behind the ceramics. It has a super silky wipeoff. Its a joy to remove.

I know this site tends to prefer the more boutique lines but Mothers 3 in 1 ceramic polish is pretty nice and would compare to some of the higher end lines here. It doesn't have much cut so it would probably need a compound used first.

Mothers doesn’t get a lot of commentary on here but Meguiar’s and Griot’s definitely does so while there is definitely some love for some boutique brands, there is definitely a lot of love for some regular stalwarts. I really like Griot’s Fast Correcting Cream and many have recommended the other more gentle polishes in the BOSS line. So I’d also suggest Griot’s Perfecting Cream as a good one.

Thanks for sharing your comments on Mother’s 3-in-1 Ceramic.

what is wrong with fillers? . Wouldnt you want fillers if you are putting a ceramic coat on top , less clearcoat removal and better overall finish?. I remember seeing a famous detailer say that he prefers to finish with a polish that contains fillers

Maybe there is nothing wrong with fillers frankly. Just an observation.

I keep seeing people giving it positive feedback. Looks like a nice bottle too. If i see it at the local canadiantire this year i will probably pick it up. I usually pick up some cheap microfibers for my interior there. Might even pick up turtlewax's new slick and side if its there but really i have lots of shampoo. Depends on my mood that day...lol
