Hello all,

Love the site! great place to find out so much information. I love detailing my cars and also preform some work on the side for others. I really want to know whats the best wax/polish system for the average everday driver. Most people i come into contact with are looking for a great shine with good protection especially in the cold harsh winter months we get in NY. Not looking to break the bank on very high end waxes, I think there great and want to offer services with them.

Thank you very much.

Collnite 845 probably your best bang for the buck. Bottle of it is about $15 and it gives great shine and awesome durability. I'm in MA and use this for all my winter preps.

For "system" I assume you mean one company's products that have everything to detail a car from wash to polish to wax to everything else.

Check out Poorboys and Griot's. They both make whatever you're looking for at a decent price.

Then there's Meguiars and Mothers.

+1 for the Megs. They have a nice "complete" line up for just about anything you need.

Thanks for all the advise. I checked out some of systems. There is SO much to choose from so gets a little confusing. the Collnite 845 sounds nice. What would be a good cleaner and polish that would go well with that product?

The choices of products can and at times are overwhelming.

Collinite 845 is nothing less than fabulous. It's ease of use and performance make it the best bang on the market by far.

If you're just beginning focus on a couple of polishes. Something like the Wolfgang Twins will give you great performance at a reasonable price.

Create a flawless finish in 2 simple steps with the Wolfgang Duo.

You may also want to initially look at a One Step product such as Menzerna Sealing Wax APO 60. This is a great one step product that performs amazing. Top this with Collinite 845 and be prepared to gloat!

Welcome. There are a lot of choices out there - which is why most of us are constantly tinkering. I have fallen in love with the following products:
Finish Kare 425 detailing spray
Optimum Car Wax
Blackfire Wet Diamond Sealant.

As "waxes" I would not hesitate recommending Finish Kare 1000P and Collonite 845.

Note the parts I made bold.

A few tips on starting a part-time detailing business <-- This one

Your friends are driving "Daily Drivers", make sure you don't get caught up in doing multiple step procedures when it might be better to just,

  • Wash
  • Clay if needed
  • Use a cleaner/wax
  • Done with paint

Doing more steps, like using a compound, polish and then wax will take you longer and chances are good the owner of a daily driver won't be able to take care of a show car finish to maintain it so it will just get filled with swirls again.

You can make paint shiny without removing all the swirls and the "average" person will think your a miracle worker.

See this article,

The difference between a swirl and squirrel

im looking at products now that i can use to see how they preform. The process you described sounds like it would fit the bill perfect for the customers i work with.
Thanks
