Hey guys , just broke Into detailing for dollars , done fine work for friends , I am a whiz with the da and a beginner at the rotary , anyway starting to get referrals , I just do paint as of now , my first stranger is inquiring about a dark 2014 Jetta , I haven't seen it yet but can only assume he doesn't need correction , about how many hours to charge for just , wash , clay , tape trim , Meg's 205 or pure polish ( depending on condition) and sealant x2 , I don't put a price on rims and tires as I just spray and wipe them and dress trimwith an all season gloss. Oh yea , no insurance or biz # yet just out of my garage ( looking to chNge that if there is a need ). I'm in canada so it's a summer side-gig. Soo Hours?

don't assume it's in good shape, I just did a 2014 Black VW GTI, dealer screwed it up trying to make it pretty (the dealer paid me to fix it BTW)... so price once you see it. Writre up coming...

BTW I work out of my garage too.. has nothing to do with pricing, I'm good and charge for it!

I dont tape (except emblems) usually with m205 as I don't find it stains as long as you wipe it off

I never, ever quote a price without seeing it and talking to the customer about what they want done. If you've been doing it for a while you should have an idea how long it might take you (depending on what they want). Have an hourly rate and multiply that by the time to complete whatever they want.

I have suffered the regrets of "assuming he doesn't need correction" on a 2014 too many times when i first started and now can hit the changeup after 2 consecutive fast balls!

Can someone ballpark it at least with no correction and correction

We don't know your process or your abilities so it is very hard to estimate ballpark numbers. I would give a reasonable estimate then over-deliver and re-evaluate for the next detail.

Fair enough , I was thinking 4 hours no correction including supplies all by hand and 8 hours if I have to run over it with the DA and 205 , re evaluate if moderate correction is involved.

HD Detailing , in your opinion how was the clear on the "14? Still Hard like the late 00"s models or softer?

You better look at it. VW's have hard clearcoat and you can't rush the process.

You mentioned using M205 which to me is correction - but it is a one step correction. M101 and 205 would be a full correction and the correction step would take twice as long. I would think about 6 hours for a one step correction and an LSP - but that's for me. You might go quicker or slower.

im working on a GTI right now, and it took me about 2hrs just to wash it. now i have it in the garage for a 1 step. im looking at about 6-7 hours total. i charge 500 for this one. he just got it about a week ago and it has the usual DISO, but this customer doesnt want a full correction. i am doing my new car prep for this one.
