Lost an old friend

Alban...I am very sorry to hear of your loss..I too lost a best friend 2 years ago...and its sad....but it happens....

I hope this will bring some happiness to you...as I believe in it.....

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

geez,does anyone have a tissue :(

Being a parent, means making hard choices. Being human means we need to care, love, and make decisions for our beloved pets. You did the right thing and avoided your friend from suffering needlessly that what makes your choice the right choice no matter how hard the outcome. With time the fondest of memories will be there to cherish and live on and you will always be better for having your special friend and he for having you.

I love animals. Pets really become part of your family. When you loose one it like loosing part of your family. It's all part of life but loosing someone you love or a close pet is not easy. It takes some time before you feel better.

Beautiful cat Alban.....sorry for the loss. Your situation and story truly made me sad for you. Hope all is better soon. Give it a while then go adopt a new friend to love, I'm sure it will help. We have a cat now that my whole family loves. We've had her for two years now, my brother has her brother and my sister has another one of her brothers. We got all three from a litter of 6. She's very unique and we swear that sometimes she talks to us:) We got her the day Hurricane Katrina went through New Orleans, so what do you think we named her? Yep, because my daughter thought it would be nice and thought it was kinda funny that the first 3 letters of the name were "Kat":) We call her "Trina";) Hope you feel better soon.

our "Kat":

Sorry for the loss alban61, but sounds like you did the best thing. It's odd, sometimes doing what is right just seems wrong sometimes huh. I hope you feel better my friend :grouphug:

Sorry for your loss. Its such a coincidence that I just experienced almost exactly the same thing 1 month ago. Our dog, a 13 y/o boxer named Koa, had recently gone blind and stopped eating for about 3 days. My wife kept mentioning that it was her telling us that she was tired and its "time". Of course, I didn't want to believe it and kept forcing her to eat. Finally, we decided to that 3 days was too long and took her to the vet. The vet came into the room and started fuddling with stuff. Unbeknownst to us, she was preparing the "needle". I asked if she was going to do it here, and she said "yes". I excused myself, my wife followed, and just asked them to let us know when we can come back and pick her up (after cremation).

I still miss her and get choked up even as I write this. So, rest assured, you're not alone. They'll always be a part of our lives and be looking out for us. Hope you feel better. But don't forget him! They'll all be waiting for us at the same place, like Al-53 wrote, over on Rainbow Bridge.:grouphug:

I need a bucket for my tears! It's so heartwarming

Alban, Sorry to hear of your loss. I too had a cat like yours that died of Kidney failure and I had to have him put to sleep. I understand your pain and guilt. But it was the right thing to to do. It was best for Whiskers. Its great that you had 15 years together. Most cats don't live such a long and good life.

Your memories will make Whiskers live in your heart.

Wow. I didn't expect such a great response. Thank you all so very much. I do feel better. I guess it was the guilt, stress and sadness that was weighing down on me that gave me my headaches. Thank you for "listening" and sharing. I couldn't bring myself to literally talk to someone. I find it easier to express myself by writing/typing. Thank you for sharing your pictures too of your beautiful pets/family members. I'm sorry for your losses too.
Al-53, that "Rainbow Bridge" story is beautiful. I've never heard that before, but I believe in it. I know there's a heaven for us, and there has to be a special place for our "beloved friends" too, where we can meet once again. Thank you.
We do have one more cat named Sam. Short for Sampson. The kids named him that when he was a kitten because he was strong. He's almost 13 yrs old now. He's still a little fireplug! LOL. Different personality from Whiskers, but also comes when called, and loves to play. Almost lost him 4 months ago, but the vet found he was diabetic. 2 units/twice a day has done wonders. He's been back to his old self the past couple months. Since Whiskers passing, Sam has been sleeping with us every night now. Sometimes it seems he's looking for his old buddy.
Whiskers is being cremated, and we've saved a special place for him. My wife found some of his fur on his fav chair. She's saved it and we'll place it with him, along with a picture.
Thank you ALL again, from the bottom of my heart. :grouphug:

I'm really sorry to read about your cat, that's so sad. I just got my first doggie ever two years ago and she's my baby, wouldn't know what to do without her! I cannot imagine losing her, my heart goes out to you and your family!

Alban -

Please know my thoughts and prayers are with you. I have quite a family of cats and each one of them is so very dear to me. Cats, much like dogs provide unconditional love and really, what more could you ask for. Even when you've had a crap day, they love you and can lift your spirits.

I believe in my heart you did what was the very best for Whiskers. He's happy, free of pain and as Al posted, in Rainbow Heaven. I turn to Rainbow Bridge as a reminder that the cats I've had that have passed are happy. Sometimes in our own bouts of selfishness, we want to keep them with us, but, when we can let go and let God, everything falls into place, and we can relish in the thought that no matter where we go, they're little souls are free, and, they are forever with us.

It will be a year Tuesdsay that I lost one of my babies, Pipsqueak (he was 3), and not a day goes by that I'm not reminded of his unconditional love. After he passed (which was sudden), I asked him for a sign to let me know he was okay. The next morning I awoke to the most amazing rainbow. I kid you not - and now, every time I see a rainbow I know his soul watches over me and he lets me know he's happy.

Remember, he's with you always.

I'm so sorry that happened to you. It would have been absolutely heart breaking to stand by watch to "best friend" lay to rest. The thought of something like that happening with one of our cats is emotional. We adopted brothers when they were only six weeks old. They are very independent except for each other, and yet they are very loving. Clyde will not leave my side, and yet he refuses to sit on my lap. He will sit right up next to me, but not on me. Or my wife for that matter.
As for you guys feeling guilty about not be there. Its not your fault. feeling "guilty" is one of the stages you deal with when your are trying to except the death of a friend, or in your case a loved one.
I'm keeping my wife away from this thread. It would have her balling.
I'm sorry for your loss, and our best wishes to you and your family.

Oh, and here are our kids

Alban, it's good to hear you're feeling better. I'm sure Whisker's is happily watching over you and your family :)

Again, I want to thank you all so very much for the well wishes and sharing your stories and pictures. This is an amazing Forum. :grouphug: Thank you again for taking the time.

do not feel guilty... I worked at a vets office in high school as a vet tech. most "parents" do not stay in the room as it is hard to bear. when we had our two pups put down we couldnt stand to be in the room knowing it was going to happen. so sorry about losing one of your best buds.
