I have never to date seen a car wash eat thru paint or clearcoat, that said, I dont leave it on paint longer than needed.

I do remember back in the late 80's were the first water based clearcoats were introduced and went bad causing flaking and such. GM had to pay for alot of repaints. Water, weather and even soap helped decay the original binders or holding agents. That was however 20 years ago.

Well maybe you guys will believe me a bit more after I take pics... It was not there before hand no way no how I know every single imperfection that my car has and this was not one of them.

Also I just had someone else feel it to make sure im not crazy, it definitely goes inwards, so something was removed and it was clearcoat.

Ron we are not challenging you , we just have never seen it happen. Was the lid sealed ?? Could someone have poured something else in it, like tampering ?? Does it smell strong like an acid ???

What happened on Megs forum? That is crazy if a coap eats through clear that fast, your talking something with the Ph level of acid to do that, it pry would have burned your skin as well if washing.

Ron, Were you using the "Hyper Concentrate Foaming Brush Detergent-Gold" ?? If so did you use it with the Foaming Brush or straight from the bottle??

Oh my god that forum is so annoying to use LOL. I tried searching on there and gave up after three tries to narrow it down, everytime you search you gotta put in some decipher code that sometimes you can't tell if letters are lower cased or upper I had to keep re-entering one as the "P" ended up being a lowercased "p" and what I thought was an "O" ended up being a "0", and if you go back and search you still have to re-enter a new one and not the one you just used. Who the hells idea was that lol, that is so annoying.

Can you PM me the link as I'm not searching there again:D

most sites do that if your not registered or logged in for the search function, ive noticed it too and it is super annoying. im interested in this TW soap thing though, gotta be some hardcore stuff to eat clear coat

I have never heard of TW gold series...and see no reference any where on it..except the commercial brand for car washes...

Turtle Wax Hyper Concentrate Foaming
Brush Detergent-Gold HP-81/5

I do not dout the poster on this as strange stuff does happen while bottling products......but I would think that a soap as strong as that would either burn the skin or at least irritate it some....

I would believe it would be more a solvent like acetone..Lacquer thinner that would eat at Clear more than Acid....and that would have to be a strong solution ..but you never know..

this is very interesting..I look forward to see pictures of the etching and product...

I hope the poster gets it squared away by the maker..I would be mad if it was me..

i know.......its a pain.......i tryed when i posted here to find the link as i remember it.but its almost impossible, from what i remember though it was something that got into his wash bucket, or sponge, or something and the census was it was not megs fault, from what i remember.....the not an isolated issue was not a megs soap issue but an issue with one of there washing tools...

Nope, gold series soap, used only microfiber, I would never put a brush on anything but my wheels or tires unless I was planning to wetsand afterwards.

But its not horrible, its only in a few spots on the roof and a drip from my drivers side mirror, you dont see it unless I point it out or you're a fellow autogeek or autopian member...

Since you asked, the bottle was sealed when I got it, I had to remove one of those peel off things from under the cap. It doesnt smell acidic, it doesnt smell at all, and it has great cleaning ability and lubricity too, left a nice shine actually....

The spots are definitely in the shape of collapsed foam bubbles, must have been a higher concentration in those areas?

This whole thing is confusing to be honest, im puzzled at how it happened myself, but hopefully theyll send some inspector out after I fill out their forms and I'll get a full or partial repaint.

I feel your pain, and I certainly ho[e they do right by you, and if not, don't stop there!!
May I ask, where did you purchase this carwash soap?
(Sorry if I missed that along the way.) What made you choose that particular one?
Just curious.
Lauren
Wishing your car the best of repaints!!!!

Ron...If it is not a problem could you post a picture of the TW soap....I have never heard of the gold series and kinda curious to see it....also a picture or 2 of the damaged areas...

Any soap that can damage a CC needs to be exposed to others so they never get any...

Thanks

Al
