Good morning all,
Just watched Mikes youtube with Justin Rose and M. Pennington on the Microfiber system and want to try it out. Can I apply a sealant prior to the second step of this system, or will the this remove the sealant? Also, can the second step be topped with carnuba or other synthetic?

Later,

I know others more educated on the mf system will reply, but from what I have read on this site and others is that the real benefit of this system is realized with just the MF cutting pads using D300, M105, FG400, etc.. Most others are finishing with foam pads vs/ the finishing microfibers, their own polishing compounds and their own LSP/coating of choice vs D301..

From what I read though, the cutting MF from megs is the bee's knees. Go for it! Compound, polish, then LSP, in that order.

I believe the OP is referring to the kit that comes with MF pads, D300, and D301. In that case, both products should first be used, followed by your LSP, if any.

My understanding is that D301 is basically a polish and wax that refines the paint to remove any micro marring from the first step. If you didn't want the wax then you could probably use M205 in place of the D301.

I used this system on a 2011 Honda Pilot, and it turned out awesome!

:xyxthumbs: Oh i understood that, but was trying to relay advice from others that have used the kit products.

OP - If you are set on the kit then go for it and let us know! :dblthumb2:

Not sure what to recommend after the finishing wax, but do not use a sealant/wax PRIOR to the finishing pads/wax step :props:

I actually like the D301, although it seems to last only until the first wash. So, if it's your car, enjoy the slickness until you have to wash it, then apply your LSP of choice at that time.

If you want to use a dedicated sealant, use it after the D301 step. But D301 already has LSP properties built in.

I use this process myself and a lot of other people also do.

Compound with D300 or your favorite compound with the microfiber cutting disc -->>> polishing with your favorite finishing polish like M205, SF4500, etc -->>> apply your favorite LSP.

What's happening is you're breaking down the D301/MF finishing disc step further into different steps with a dedicated purpose. D301 is a finishing polish with LSP features. It's designed to remove hazing from the D300 compounding step and leave some protection. Since it's designed to do both, it may not be the best in those 2 features. If you break down the D301 step into separate finishing polish and LSP steps, you maximize their respective performance.
