M105 Caking Up?

You have to get rid of your method with diminishing abrasives with the Megs twins. You have to make a new process just for these polishes because the same proces will not work with dimisnishing abrasives as you have found out. Smaller sections and keep reminding yourself that these polishes work alot quicker.
 
Used 205 yesterday on my sons Saturn using a black ccs pad .Not a bit of problems and i was in a rush since he needed to go back to Orlando.

205 works great and haven't had one problem with it so far. Just 105. When I have a problem it's when you turn the machine on and it's like gum or something. Explained it to Meg's in detail and they said it should not be happening so we'll see.
 
Is this the old M105 or is this the new M105 for D.A.'s? I just purchased the new M105 D.A. on the Thanksgiving sale and have yet to use it. I am now gonna keep my eye on this thread.

For me this is the new 105. I'm happy with how it performs when it's not caking. I actually created a post in the how to section about my experience with it. I'm looking forward to my new bottle arriving but actually I can make do with what's going on with the one I have and like the end results.
 
Yeah I have yet to call them. Since my full Menzerma line showed up today. I have yet to have any problems with them, and they finish out just as well as the 105/205 to me.

An Update: I started a detail yesterday on a Nissan Quest with M105 via KBM (PC7424XP). And it works fine. However, when I switched up to Rotary, its like gumming up like what I said before. I primed the pad with CG's pad conditioner with 5.5" Uber pads. Then work my with a 2x2 area at 1100RPM. After a few seconds working in it starts to dry fast and gum up.

I am not finished with my detail so I see if I should try out a new technique. Ill keep you guys updated!
 
My replacement hasn't come so I continue to play with what I have. Last night, I experimented with spritzing my pad before each session. (Using Flex 3401 at setting 4 to start.) First pass it went on a little runny but the key for me was making my passes extremely fast at 4. When I say runny it looked like the consistency of a wet hand lotion or something.

So working swiftly on the passes while it was runny, it would go to a haze/gummy state and if I would hurry and make a pass over it when it started this stage, it would turn translucent, kind of the same look as the Menzerna after it's spread.

So now I watch the colors and consistency and adjust my speed until I get to the translucent stage and then I don't have near the problems.

This sounds like a lot but it's really happening in 2 to 3 passes and probably 10 to 20 seconds. I have a post I started on 105 that I'm going to update as well.

If I miss the mark and it turns gummy or cakes I just stop and spritz with a little water until it's wet enough to get to the translucent state without causing a lot of dust.
 
When I first tried M105 I made a 3 test spost on a hood and sat there and ran 3 different passes with 3 different methods. The last one was on a freshly primed pad (with small amount of polish worked in; can't stress that enough) and a very thin line about 4 inches long spread onto the area. Pick up the bead, and spread in the work area for about 1 1/2 minutes tops.

Waiting on my step mom for the good pics. I took the pics on her Canon and am waiting on the email from her with the pics Should have the entire deal tonight. It was easily my best work yet.
 
I think the newer M105 formulation had more lubricants in it so that should help allot but I think many users do two things; apply too much and don't moisten the pad enough with water.

This is true, they did add more lubricants. Using too much product will cause problems but there is no need to add water to moisten the pad. If you prime the pad correctly with 105 you will not have any misery what so ever.

But if you still have the same problem can you just add a little m205 to help.

Why would you do that? M105 is meant to work fast and everyone is treating it like diminishing abrasives and it is not. I do not see the purpose in mixing products to make one work. You need to learn how to work the product itself so it works to its full potential.
 
2 sprays of water on the pad will help alot with 105, why guess if you have primed it correctly when 2 sprays of water will do the trick?

I agree and that is why I like 105 for its quick working time. :xyxthumbs:
