Hi everyone,

My name is Vic, and this is my first post. I own a 2011 Black G37 coupe and I will be polishing it for the first time in the next few weeks. After doing extensive research on polishing and having practiced some, I plan to tackle my car with the meg twins. My question is: what would be a good polish to use to really jewel the paint after 205? I know the Menzerna 4500 is supposed to be amazing. Has anyone had experience with Chem guys V38? I will be doing the polishing with Lake Country MF pads and final jeweling with a black pad. How does all of this sound?

Hi Vic, and welcome to AG. I am not pro, just a hobbiest, so take my advice with a grain of salt.

I have black daily driven 2011 Dodge Charger and my wife has a 2004 Honda Civic. I used the Meg twins (105 & 205) on them and they both turned out beautiful. I used some Klasse AIO on top of the 205, but it was more to experiement than to jewel the paint. The 205 left both cars looking fantastic (in my eyes anyway). In my humble opinion you can go from 205 straight to LSP (last step product, i.e wax or sealant/coating). By the way, M205 is advertised as Ultra Finishing Polish. It will really polish things out nicely.

Post some pics when you do the detail!

Also, be sure to tape off trim and cover your windsheild with a soft towel. The twins are great, but if you get splatter from them on the glass or paint (where you're not polishing) it's a pain to get the little hardened dots of polish off. My first detail was on my old Mazda pickup and as a n00b I used too much product and got splatter all over the place. Hillarity ensued. Along with a lot of curse words........

Welcome to AG!!! I haven't tried the Menzema...interested in seeing what people have to say. I always use hyper polish and I love the way that finishes.

I have a 07 350Z - so it probably has the same "hard clear coat" as the G37. I used the M105 / 205 combo and went straight to an LSP (Souveran) and that process won me best paint at Detail Fest last year. Needless to say there is nothing more needed after 205 other than an LSP of your choice. M205 finishes flawlessly.

u can use m205 with a jeweling pad..i use the Gold compressor pad to jewel... come out like.... dont have the words to discribe how it looks lol!

Vic, since winter is coming (I sound like I'm from Game of Thrones, lol), I would suggest one final step of DG 501/601 combo with your DA (you will be amazed at what it does) followed by DG 105/601 (both at 4:1 ratio of sealant to 601) and then top that with Colli 845. You will have protection BEYOND the winter. It's a bulletproof combo and looks amazing. You'll have the perfect finish as well as awesome protection!

Thanks for the all the help guys i'll be sure to post pics when i'm done!

I have never heard of these products. When mixing how much should I come up with as a total. Would it be in ounces?

Is this correct:

1. 501/601

2. 105/601

3. Colli 845

Can I put down a glaze first?

Vic I have a 2010 G37 and even a year older I can't see the reason to use M105. The M105 is a pretty agressive polish rated at 10 out of 10 on the agressive scale. When I did mine about a year out I used Wolfgang which is 7 out of 10 and only needed it on the hood and the trunk, I used M205 on the rest. I'll have a year coming up here shortly and next time I think I can probably get by with Menzerna SF-4000 or M205 since I am alot more careful washing.

I have some Ultimate Compound which I have tried on some spots and its worked well, and I know this is a lesser cut than 105. When I get the 205 I will see if that alone will correct my defects. And I will be trying it with the MF pads which I have not used yet and hear they have more cut than foam. But I will try the less aggressive approach first. I will also pick up a polish that is between these two.

Like Mike says, use the least aggressive polish first. I think if you use only the products Richy recommended, it'll come out really good for a DD. you only have so much clear coat.

Isn't what Richy recommended for protection?

That is correct. Just mix what you need in 4:1 ratio. I use Dollar store plastic squeeze ketchup bottles.
Personally, I hate glazes, they just hide stuff. 501 will clean the paint and make it pristine. There's lots to read on here about the power of 501. You will wonder how you ever got by without it once you use it.

Will 501 correct defects....is it a polish? Sorry never heard of these before.

501/601/105 is made by duragloss. 501 is an AIO(all in one) it will remove minor swirls etc. also a great cleaner and protector. If you use a DA, you'll get even more correction ability.

Good point. When I said I used 105 on my 2011 Charger I didn't go into detail. I only used it on the top of the trunk, part of the rear bumper, and I will be using it on the hood. These areas have some deeper RIDs that needed a heavier polish. The rest of the car (sides, roof, etc) all got 205. My understanding is that 105 is STRONG. As others have suggested, do a test area first and use the least aggressive product. Maybe try 205 with an orange (more coarse) polishing pad and see if that removes the defects. If that doesn't work, then try 105. And maybe even try 105 with a milder pad before going to a orange pad.

I'm going to be using Lake Country new Microfiber pads. They is just one pad for both compounding and polishing. I saw them advertised on this site and have been reading up on them a little. They are supposed to be better than the MF pads that are supplied in the Megs MF kit
