I'm using M205 as my finishing polish with a white lake country pad before adding my coating.

This combo is yielding good results but I'm wondering if a black pad would make a significant gloss difference with the 205 over the white.

I would have to order black pads and delay my coating, so trying to get opinions if it is worth it.

Any opinions?

Thanks,

Rick

White pad is fine unless you working with very soft paint the black pad will be required however on very soft paints M205 can be finicky compared to the other finishing polishes.

If it is working out then continue to use it and then proceed to coat the car. Don't forget to do some sort of prep wipe after M205 prior to applying the coating..

I appreciate the replies Zubair and Guz. It's a Dodge and doesn't seem to sticky. It looks good, but I my mind was chasing after gloss.

Wolfgang Perfekt paint prep and Uber coating come tomorrow.

As others have said, black pad would be necessary on softer paint. Pay close attention to your arm speed and machine speed.

Thanks, appreciate the feedback. I'm running the DA at a speed of 5.

I their white pad is pretty soft in general and shouldn't have much cut, or cause micro marring, unless the paint is super soft.

You could try a test spot with a lighter polish with the same pad before making an order. Make sure you do a tape line, or it will be very hard to see the difference.

Without a test spot you really don't know.

Maybe pick up an OTC Meguiars product and try it out.

In terms of agressiveness isn't it

1 orange
2 white
3 black?

Yes, that is my understanding as well, but the white pad seems pretty mild also with the 205.

I've tried this very thing on my white truck (2002 Ford paint) and literally could not detect a difference. Just further proof that it would be paint dependent. Also just did my '16 Focus with the white pad and it left the paint in my eyes flawless, thus no reason to even try the black as I don't know what it could possibly improve.

The only reason I'd say use the black is following the "least aggressive tool possible to get the jov done" convention. Technically speaking, the black pad is softer and less aggressive according to LC, so if it accomplishes what you're after, go for it. Really can't go wrong either way and probably splitting hairs anyways over which is least/more aggressive between those two pads.

I was happy with the way the paint looked with the white pad so went on and used it on the whole car.
