I treat carbon fiber just as I would clear coat.
I have purchased a lot of carbon fiber parts for cars I have and have had. The manufacter of every carbon fiber part I have purchased said the carbon fiber was coated with urethane. Urethane is a type of plastic. It comes in a liquid state then hardens with exposed to air and the solvents evaporate. I have never purchased one that said it was coated with fiberglass resin. Fiberglass resin or any resin is very dense and heavy and would defet the purpose of going to carbon fiber. When subjected to a far amount of heat the urethane will yellow. I would use a lot of caution if you polish it was a rotary. I have done a lot of furniture using urethane. I usually put on 5-6 coats of urethane and steel wool with #0000 between coats. I have polished out the urethane after going over it with the #0000 steel wool. From my experience it will take less heat to yellow the urethane then it will to burn the paint with a rotary.
