Making 1st Costco trip... What should I pick up?

In most cases, Costco is not cheaper than your average regular store, however they have a couple killer deals and a great warranty (only ever buy a Kuerig from Costco, if it breaks you get a free replacement off the shelf). Their optical department always tops consumer reports lists for price, service and quality as well...

Others are their allergy medicine: a 365 count of loretadine (Claratin) is less than $20 USD. They also have 48 count cases Kirkland brand b-vitamin energy drinks for ltd than a dollar each if you're addicted to those 5hr Energy type drinks. And if course their terry and mf towels...

I suggest picking up some Einstein bagels, Hormel microwave bacon and some cheddar cheese....oh wait, that's my list, LOL!

They used to have Oil Eater degreaser but whenever you go there make a trip down the automotive isle, you never know what's there (they usually have Chevron fuel injector cleaner too!)

Yep, love those Eurow towels too! ;) Just washed a new bundle of them this week. Can't beat um' at what, .44¢ each! Heck, ordering from Eurow direct they are .57¢ (plus shipping).

One thing to look for... make sure to check how many are in the bundle! They seem to have a problem counting. SERIOUSLY!!! Last time I got 33, this time there were 34. (which took the cost up to .47¢) Still though they are a great towel to have around.

When new (IE not dirty) I use a little normal washing detergent with a little Woolite, and a spoon of vinegar. If they are dirty I'll add a presoak with detergent, APC+ & (just a spoon of vinegar).

Our washer and dryer are programmable (actually the dryer receives it's directions from the washer via serial cable). I've got a program for MF Towels, Polyester, (Pre soak when I need it), Normal wash, Extra rinse, extra spin. Then the dryer uses medium heat, extra tumble.

They come out really fluffy! :)

I also bought that huge pack of crappy mf towels from costco. Whoever said they needed to be washed first is right. Tons of little yellow balls shed as soon as you take them out of the bag. I have only used them for wiping off quick detailer off wheels and I sometimes just toss them away instead of washing them if it's really dirty with brake dust. I'd probably also use it for applying plastic cleaner for stuff under the hood. No way I'd use it on paint.

And buy usda prime ribeyes from costco. It's not cheap compared to regular supermarket steak, but usda prime is so much better than usda choice and it's cheaper than spending 40 to 50 bucks for prime grade ribeyes at a fancy steakhouse.

I got the "Snap On" electric pressure washer from Costco last year. That makes my fourth one from Costco. They each seem to last about 18 months. then the pump housing starts to leak. just make sure you save the box, receipt, and all other paperwork. They will instantly give you a cash refund.

And in case you need any, the Charisma bath towels are all $2.00 off thru Sunday. They are the best towels for the money I have ever found. Obviously they are for your body, not the car's.

And one roll of aluminum foil is about ten times as much as you get at the supermarket. They are on sale too. One two pack should last most households five years or longer.

I am one of those fools that goes up and down every aisle. I have never gotten out of Costco for less than $200.00

And the hot dog and soda is always an incredible deal. So is the pizza!

:iagree:
So true. My wife got/is hung up on these Kuerigs. Got her one for Christmas four years ago and we are on our fifth one. The guy at the return counter got his wife one also around the same time and he has been through four of them also.

My wife got me the 174-piece Craftsman tool set (at Costco) for Christmas this year. This past Friday, I finally used the set to replace the sparkplugs and two Oxygen sensors in one of the cars. The sockets and extensions are still top quality and made in the USA. The ratchets were junk. The ratches are made elsewhere (you know where). I took the ratchets to Sears yesterday and they would not exchange them or let me pay the retail difference in price to up-trade them. They would only exchange them for refurbished items of equal ilk. Ditto with the department manager.

I didn't scream or shout or cuss or swear or carry on like a crazy person. I did explain that I had purchased Craftsman tools for the past 50 years and my father also for 60 years. I even took down Craftsman ratchets that I owned that were 30 years old, 15 years old, and 10 years old. Still no-go. I told them if we couldn't come to an equitable solution I would never go into a Sears store or a K-Mart store ever again. I reiterated I would pay the up-trade price for the better ratchets (Sears did not used to have different quality of ratchets!!!!!!!!!!!). Still no-go.

I said OK, Adios. I took the entire tool set back to Costco for a full refund. The return counter guy just shook his head when I showed him the ratchets. Good-bye Craftsman; hello Snap-on/MATCO. It explains a lot why Sears/K-Mart is circling the drain.

Sorry for the rant.

Don't forget the Pepperoni pizza; and maybe the ice cream bar covered in chocolate and crushed almonds.Im the MAN

Costco is great.
Have you considered moving?

LOL

"The Good Wife" would like that...
but being that I'm equipped with special ankle jewelry...
the authorities would probably find me, and return me home.

Someday, though, I might be allowed to drive up to Columbus or Cincinnati
to see a real-life Costco in person. Oh What a Day!!

I know, and it sucks, my baby brother used to make good money up till a couple years ago buying broken craftsman tools at flea markets & garage sales on the cheap, testing them in and selling them on craigslist for half price of new.

I thought it was a genius way to turn a buck

Wow, that is NOT good to hear. Doesn't all the packaging still say "lifetime warranty". (Dunno, I've not bought anything Craftsman in well over a decade.) I ask because some of my oldest tools are Craftsman. Going back to the 70's actually! I keep telling my wife we need to go to Sears one day and I can take a few screwdrivers and a ratchet that's been broken forever, but we never get up that way. Used to be a nice area, sorta' sketchy now. Heck, half the mall up there is empty now (and it used to be one of the nicest around). Sort of one of those things the closer you get to Atlanta, the worse it gets.

Sounds like ordering a pizza, Tony. LOL!

Naaaaahhhh.... but I like their hotdogs! Actually when we lived up there I'd go by there sometimes during lunch and walk around to snack, then leave and go back to work!

In our case it USED to be great. There are 4 in the metro Atl area, only 1 on the south side of town. (ours) Last December it was rolled over to a "Business Center" and BOY DOES IT SUCK!!!

Sure, it's great if you own a resturant. Lots of big flat pans, meat by the CASE not the piece. No small stuff AT FREAKING ALL. No computers to speak of, no TV's or electronics, just case lots of freaking FOOD. (for the most part) Did keep the pharmacy I'm told (good for my father in law) but we don't go there. Makes it hard to keep the Executive Membership now for sure. The wife says one day we'll have to pack up the coolers and drive to the other side of town to shop.
NOT! :nomore:

I kid you not. They now have different "qualities" or "grades" of ratchets; from what I guess was the lowest quality I got in the tool set I had up to professional quality. I think they said they still have a lifetime warranty, but when I showed them my 30 year old and 20 year old ratchets as examples of quality ratchets, they said they did not carry those anymore.

You can probably get them to exchange a broken ratchet still, but you may find that what they refer to as their top grade may not match up to what you and I and thousands of others are used to having from years gone by.

The sockets in the set were the same quality you would expect; they had, among the other usual items, "Made In USA" imprinted on them. The ratchet handles had "Craftsman USA" imprinted on them; subtle difference. The ratchets were junk; about $55 worth of junk.

No BS or exaggeration here, only exasperation; true story.:checkit:

Well doggone it.... I guess I'll have to strap on my .45 and go up to the old mall and check it out. ;)

Simpson power washers (electric and gas), great products, the jack mentioned above, storage racks for garage, one I have cost $65 and holds 1000 pounds.

I need to make a trip

From the sounds of this thread I need to dump Samsclub and check out Costco. I have never once seen anything car related that I'd want there, and as for other stuff you can probably find just as good of a deal elsewhere with better customer service!
