Hi. I don’t know if I’m going to ask a really silly thing so excuse me if I do but I prefer this than living in doubt. Were I live auto detailing is somewhat new, I detail cars because I really love doing it and the only machine I had used was a rotary. I decided to buy the makita PC500C . I just got to use it this week and most of the time I had to use the forced rotation mode because in DA mode it stopped rotating most of the time. I tried more product, less product, less pressure, more speed, less speed, etc. It even seemed not to rotate when I turned it on and it wasn’t against anything. The car turned out great but I wasn’t feeling confortable with the polisher. I have another car coming up Monday and I just wanted some opinions about my DA, is this normal?

The 5000C is pretty much a wax spreader or for sanding in da mode. Really not a fan of these dual mode type polishers as there tends to always be a sacrifice compared to dedicated tools. Owners of 5000C’s will obviously disagree.
 
Most everyone who has 'reviewed' the 5000C says the same thing: NON-forced mode is pretty useless for any sort of correction/polish/etc.

Actually, I have one that I haven't had a chance to use yet but I bought it w/ the expectation that I'd pretty much only use forced mode (I have a GG6 too)
 
They all eventually stall if you apply enough pressure, pad size etc.

The forced ones do not.
 
That stinks. :/

Maybe just use the Makita in forced mode, and grab a GG6!
 
I’ve had my 5000C for at least 6 months now and can confirm it is next to useless in Free spin mode - almost to the point of false advertising by Makita in my opinion. My GG6 on speed 3 walks all over the Makita on its max of speed 5. In free spin mode the 5000C can be used to spread a wax or sealant but to use it in that mode for correction is an exercise in futility. In gear driven mode it is a very solid polished with tons of power. Makita should either make it more effective in free spin mode or stop advertising it as such.

The D/A mode is crap ..anything under 8mm in freespin will only be good as a wood sander or wet sanding and other lil things like wax spreader and clay disc..

Makita needs to hit up Metabo and get the ok to use their variable MM throw option lol

Make it 5.5 forced and when switch to free spin goes to 8mm ..


When in forced, it's def the best machine out of the 5(Bosch and Festool)
 
Our only hope for a true dual mode polisher is Metebo..which isn't happening.but hey...they're excited to give us a rotary soon...

Or Chinese reverse engineering Makita and a Metabo sxe450 and mate the two.

I'm like well steal my idea and clain it as yours haha

Maxshine would do it.. but min of 60k plus a requirement to order 5000 pieces every year...
